Second Year is already a week old and we are settling in well!
The new timetable will take a little getting used to - sometimes we still think we are on our S1 timetables (and that includes the teachers!) - but we are enjoying meeting some of our new teachers.
In Science we are finishing off our plants project and will begin our new S2 course in August - it will be all about The Body!

We won’t be finished with the garden or plants however…we are going to be studying many aspects of gardening in our Tuesday afternoon Garden Project. All the horticultural and woodwork skills we have acquired are going to come in handy in the coming months!
In maths we have been working on addition and subtraction, telling the time and simple fractions as Ms Balsillie gets to know us and see all the great things we can do. Some of us have also been working on our times tables.

In Social Studies we have been looking at where our food comes from - there are so many different countries that produce our food! We found out that tea comes from India, Kenya and other places that are hot. We discovered that coffee grows as a plant that produces beans and that it grows in Brazil, Kenya, Ethiopia - indeed lots of warm and sunny places.
We think that people in all countries make bread but it comes in different shapes and sizes…in France they have baguettes; in Mexico they eat tortilla wraps and fajitas; in Ireland they have Soda Bread and in America some people eat Bagels.

In Health we looked at the need for us to keep clean - especially looking at washing our hands after we have been to the toilet. We made brilliant posters for all the staff toilets that told people how to wash their hands and to remind them of how important it is
