New beginnings…

This week we make our start to S2 and contemplate the challenge of learning our new timetable!

S2 has begun for our pupils and they are getting to grips with a new daily routine, some new teachers and some new subjects!

In has come the Tuesday Afternoon Gardening Project - following on from the success of last year’s Science project “The Life of P.L.ants”.

The students have been afforded the responsibility for the Learning Zone garden and will be using this space to landscape, grow, tend and harvest plants. They will also be using the space to house “garden architecture” that they will make in CDT as part of this project (this will follow on from the fabulous bird boxes constructed last session!)

The project is being run by Mr Cruickshank and Mrs Binnie and will cover a number of aspects of different areas of the curriculum :

  • wood craft (CDT)
  • planning (CDT)
  • painting and varnishing (CDT)
  • plant growth and physiology (Science)
  • plant nutrition (Science)
  • plant variation (Science)

Also new on the timetable for the group are two periods with Mrs Hoban where the pupils will begin working towards ASDAN qualifications. These are life skills based and are recognised by employers andĀ further education colleges alike.

More information will follow in due course.
