A tin of tartan paint sir…

We have all heard the old story about apprentices being sent by their bosses to get long stands or tins of tartan paint - but the ELP pupils could have done with that very thing in the last week, as they have looked into Scottish clans and their tartans!

The Thomson Tartan (look familiar?)

Mr Samuel has spent the last couple of weeks in Social Studies looking at Scottish clans and their names and tartans. The pupils have particularly enjoyed looking up their own clan tartan on the internet - in the process demonstrating just how good they have become at using search engines since the start of S1.

Once they had found their own tartan on the web, they had to transfer it onto a kilt template and colour it in using pencils and gel pens. The results were stunning!

Having established a bit of their own heritage and family culture the pupils were then encouraged to look at the colours and patterns employed by kilt makers…and then design their own tartans from scratch, using their imaginations!

A few budding Jasper McConrans have shown their talents in the process…

We reckon the next time Shrek wants to commission a new outfit he ought to be picking up the phone to the ELPs!
