Captain’s Log, Star Date April 16th 2008…
This Wednesday our S1 ELP pupils will be taking part in a whole year Enterprise project under the supervision of the school Business Studies department.
This event will allow all S1 pupils to undertake a project designed to enhance their thinking and entrepeneurial skills - it will also simply be lots of fun!
Please ask them about it when they get home on Wednesday - we are sure they will have lots of exciting things to tell you!
Elsewhere on the ELP programme this week…

Science
Last week we made a tentative start on our project for the spring and summer months - The PL Life of PLants!
For the next ten weeks the pupils will be finding out about the life of plants -
- how do they grow?
- how do they reproduce?
- why are they green?
- what do bees have to do with flowers?
- why is the sun important to plants?
- what happens when you put food colouring into the water of a vase of white carnations?
- who can grow the biggest tomato plant?
- and so many more fun questions and activities…
The project will include a trip to Lauriston Castle on May 7th 2008, accompanied by Miss Cleland, Mrs Binnie and Mrs Reid.

Maths
Consolidation of time will be important this week - after a holiday it is vital we revisit work we made progress in before Easter to see what we have retained.
In addition to revisiting time we will also be doing more work on using money. This week we will be looking at the concept of “change” - especially the “right change”.

English
This week Mrs Simpson will be taking us for our English as Ms Russell is out of school. It will be lovely to see her again as we have missed her since she retired! Mrs Simpson will continue with our personal reading and writing schemes.
On our doorstep
We have been VERY busy working towards the whole school project On our doorstep. This culminates next month with an Open Doors event and a performance.
So far we have made great progress with our 3D map of Prestonpans - wait till you see our houses! We have also completed our poster presentation on Prestonpans past and present (that is not an easy thing to say - try it!)
We are now really concentrating on our performance of The 124 Bus. This is our short play showing the route of one of our local buses - we will be taking a ride on the bus very shortly, just to make sure we have our script in good order!

We were very fortunate last Friday when Drama Specialist, Mrs Gammie, took us along to the school drama studio and allowed us a proper rehearsal with feedback. It was fantastic and we can only say a big thank you to her!
