The Magnificent 7
The team were carefully selected from the finest collection of athletes/rugby players the school could offer. After intense training sessions the boys felt prepared to enter the national tournament. 64 teams were involved in the competition but the PL boys felt confident they could take them all on!
The team arrived at the stadium to find they had been allocated the Edinburgh professional team dressing room; it was kindly prepared for them with energy drinks, ice baths and team tactics.
The warm up for the first game consisted of elite army training, fruit consumption and photo shoots, the boys were ready!
The 1st game did not go quite to plan as they lost narrowly to a very strong Portobello side, however this allowed the boys to enter the bowl competition, which they dominated until the final beating schools from the west coast, Fife and Edinburgh. Only an agonising defeat to Ellon denied the team a trophy. The boys played some very skilful rugby but what was most encouraging was their work rate in defence and desire to play for each other. As bowl runners up the team received prizes for their efforts but unfortunately no medals.
- Player of the day – Scott Grant
- Try of the day - Dale Gordon
- Top try scorer – Cal Cowley
All had a great day; hopefully next year the boys will go one better and return with silverware.
More exciting rugby news…
