Commonwealth Youth Games

Two Preston Lodge former pupils and one current pupil have been selected to represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in India during October

They are Badminton players Paul van Reitvelde and Craig Pollock and Boxer Josh Taylor.The Scotland team sponsors Clydesdale Bank have named former pupil Josh - Athlete of the month for August 2008.

Craig has just returned to Preston Lodge for his sixth

year, whilst

Paul recently left school after completing his fifth year.

Many congratulations to all of them for their hard work and dedication to their sport - and best of luck for the challenges ahead !

Appeal for Sport Coaches at PLHS

Preston Lodge High School are looking for coaches and volunteers to help the extra-curricular sporting activities which happen at the school on a daily basis

We have an extensive programme running at the school and urgently require sports coaches, especially for our Football teams but also other sports that we have in our programme.

Experience is not essential but will help if you have worked with children before.

We are also looking for parents to become involved in coaching or volunteering.

Volunteering maybe such things as first aid on match days, photographers for games or anything that you are able to contribute to help the Sporting activities.

We had an extremely successful year on the sporting front last year and aim to build on it this year and for years to come.

The new Extra-Curricular Sport timetable has started at Preston Lodge High School.

We have extended this year’s clubs and have open more opportunities for girls to access regular physical activity in the school.

Monday Lunchtime: Badminton, Dance Mats, Rugby Skills

Monday 3.45 to 5.00: Rugby, Hockey, S3/S4 Football

Tuesday Lunchtime: S1-S3 Indoor Football, Rugby Skills

Tuesday 3.45 to 5.00: S1/S2 Football, Cheerleading (Starts 2nd September £2 per class)

Wednesday Lunchtime: Rugby Skills

Wednesday 3.45 to 5.00: Rugby, Basketball

Thursday Lunchtime: S4-S6 Indoor Football

Thursday 3.45 to 5.00: Girls Football, Badminton

Friday 1.30 to 3.30: Gym & Swim (Mercat Gait Sports Centre £3 per class Run by East Lothian Council)

PL Hoody Jumpers

Anyone who order a PL Sports Hoody before the summer holidays you order has now been delivered.

This year Mr Bennion will be taking orders for the hoody jumpers. The orders will be sent away in groups of 20 to keep the costs lower due to delivery. This year the jumpers will cost £20 and are in adult sizes. They will have the Preston Lodge embroidered badge on the front with a Large Printed badge on the back with Preston Lodge and a sport can be added if the pupils wishes.

PL S1 Take on rest of Scotland

PL - 6 Dunfermline schools - 1
PL got off to a slow start in the first game with Dunfermline taking the lead due to a lack of concentration at the start. The boys soon got up to speed and the skill levels of passing out of the tackle and just keeping possession and moving it wide were paying dividends. It could have been another 4 or 5 scores …it was a fair play event and the ref pulled up several pops for going
forward. They certainly must have had the biggest guy in the tournament playing. When Dougie Horne went on for the last 5 minutes he was certainly a good bit smaller in height and bulk so the boys did well containing him.
PL - 8 Johnston HS - 1
Another excellent display with 3 tries scored from running behind the in goal area. Good passing by the backs and going into space. The pace we had in all areas and the passing to the centre and wing was
fantastic with the guys taking all their chances. Every player had now taken part in the tournament as PL were just starting to warm up.
PL -1 Highland - 2
Highland are a very good side. PL had met them last year in at the Ellon P7 tournament and managed a victory that day even though Highland went on to win the tournament.The boys played very well and again nearly everyone got game time and all preformed well as a team an impressive performance overall.

Overall they played exceptionally well throughout even in the heat …. it was very…very hot! Absolutely everyone in the squad contributed so it was a great team effort.

All the boys behaved impeccably so please give them a big well done.

Joe Brown won the S1 skills challenge… (an assault course type event which was rugby focused.). This was a timed event and he had a really quick time and deserves a recognition for beating the best from all those taking part …excellent effort !

Dancing

Dancing is back on at Preston Lodge. The Class will run on a Thursday 3.45 to 4.45. These classes will run to the last week of school then will continue after the holidays. Hopefully we can get as many girls along as possible.

S1 7s at Murrayfield

Festival of Rugby S1 Boys School 7s Festival 2008 Saturday 31^st May 2008, Murrayfield Back Pitches, Edinburgh Coach park and entry gates open at 9.30am.Registration from 9.30am at SRU Trailer, back pitches, Murrayfield. Format & Ties - Teams will be divided into four pools or four teams. Each team will play 3 ties. Ties will be a straight 14 minutes with no turn around. The winner of the Jim Telfer Trophy for S1 Boys School 7s Rugby will be determined by the school with the most points gained through the Fair Play Rules and medals will also be presented to the winners and runner-up of the Fair Play points.
