Preston Lodge were looking forward to the game against a side that they beat convincely last year. The team was hoping to get through to the next round of the Scottish Cup.
The game was meant to be played over a month ago and the hype of playing in the game got to the players as they took an early lead from deadly striker Declan Quinn. The referee then disallowed another Declan Quinn goal for offside after Firhill official shouted that it was offside when it clearly was not. This was to happen several times and frustrated the team and benefited a Firhill team who bullied their way to a 2-1 lead at half time. The first half was 45minutes long and the Preston Lodge boys were frustrated at half-time and a little battered and bruised.
Firhill then took a 3-1 lead in the second half but the Preston Lodge boys got a second wind and battled back into the game and got the game to 3-2 and should have equalised but yet again an offside decision went against PL after the ball was in the net. After another Firhill goal the PL boys dug in deep and brought it back to 4-3 through Johnny Edmond.
The dubious decisions kept coming thick and fast after the ref booked 3 PL players for tackles that were not half as bad as Firhill’s continual fouling all day without a freekick or punishment going against them.
Firhill scored a 5th goal but only after PL had the ball in the net another twice but given for offside at a corner and a foul in the other half of the pitch which was not interfering with play.
The ref blew the whistle after 20 minutes of the second half due to training session which was waiting to come onto the pitch.
The boys played extremely well and deserved to go through and would have on a different day and different ref.
Also a mention for all the first year players who stepped up a level to play well done you did yourselves and the school proud
