The S1 girls represented Preston Lodhe High School at the East Lothian Core Porgramme on Friday 28th September. This was the girls first game together and they did not disgrace themselves or the school.
There was an excitement between the girls who had waited 5 weeks to get their first game together underway. Their first game was against a very established side in North Berwick who have played several games together since the school year started. The Preston Lodge Girls started well and maintain a strong attack continually throughout the first period of the game. North Berwick did not pose a threat and Preston Lodge’s continual attacking paid off when the girls won their first games 2-0.
Preston Lodge had to wait a while for their second game together which cam against our neighbours Ross High. Yet again Preston lodge continually attacked throughout the 15 minute game and through this comntinual pressure the girls ran out 4-0 winners which set-up the next game perfectly as a winner takes all match.
North Berwick lay in wait for the Preston Lodge S1 side who had won every game so far and got better and better throughout the tournament. North Berwick had also won all their games with a 6-0 win over Dunbar and a 4-0 win over the 2nd team at North Berwick.
North Berwick took an early lead but Preston Lodge did not give up. Conceeding their first goal in the tournament was hard but the stepped up their game and came back into contention. The girls pulled a goal back with some brilliant play and looked odds onto wim it when North Berwick counter attacked and scored a second goal and a third which was a dubious decision. The girls played well and did not deserve the 3-1 defeat. However they could still win the tournament by beating Dunbar heavily and hoping North Berwick lost.
The girls knew they could relax but decided to go all out attack and this paid off for the girls. They ended up as 6-0 winners against Dunbar but in the end North Berwick beat Ross High in their last game to clinch the trophy.
In all the girl played extremely well and for their first time paying together deserve a lot of credit in finishing in the runners-up position.
WELL DONE GIRLS!!!! HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR
