Preston Lodge S2 girls attended a girls core programme hockey tournament at meadowmill on Friday 21st September. This was a tournament attended by East Lothian Schools with the exception of Knox Academy and Musselburgh Grammar School.
The teams were split into 2 group with Preston Lodge being drawn against North Berwick 1 and North Berwick 2. This was a difficult group but the girls were very optimistic about their chances after winning the tournament at S1 the previous year.
In the first game the girls were very dominant throughout the game and ended up beating North Berwick 1 2-0 in a very exciting game. This gave the girls 3 points and with a win in the next game they would progress to the final. The girls were on immediately after their first game and looked to be in high spirits after their first win. The girls went onto win their second game 5-0 which meant they progressed to the final.
The final was against Dunbar Grammar 2 who ahd also won both their games in the group wihich brought them to the final. The game was very intense with both side attacking continuously. Preston Lodge were unlucky in a couple of occassions hitting the post and also Dunbar had a good goalkeeper that kept the scores level at full-time. It went to a nail bitting penalty shoot-out were both goalkeepers were excellent as well as the players who stepped up to take a penalty. A few excellent saves from Karen Munro lead to Preston Lodge having a penalty to win the game in which they scored to win the tournament. The girls were delighted and did not only play well on the day but also behaved and had good sportsmanship which was execellent to see in a coaches point of view
WELL DONE GIRLS!!!!!!
