Please make sure you attend an important meeting in Mr Kidd’s room at breaktime on Wednesday 9th April.

You must attend!!

Expedition paperwork

Please see Mr Kiernan asap to collect important paperwork. This letter will give the dates and times for our Silver and Bronze expeditions as well as the all important parental consent form (tells us about any medical concerns you have, emergency contacts, etc)

Expedition training

It was SUPERB to see so many of you at our first exped training session. It fair cheered us teachers up. Now comes the fun part; getting you lot up to speed and able to find your way to the campsite!! From what we’ve seen so far, this should be a walk in the park.

Here are the dates for the Expedition training.

These are really really important.

23rd  January Navigation - Preparatory map skills Compasses and direction
30th January Navigation - Practical map skills, Map symbols, Scale distance, Contours, Timings
6th February Compass skills
20thFebruary Hygiene, Tents and Campcraft : Pitching a tent
5th March Cooking- Trangia stoves, Food and nutrition- preparing menus
12th March Equipment - Packing your bag.- More complicated than it sounds!!
9th April Expedition Reports - How to write an expedition report (ie what to look for and be interested in the outdoors

Start straight after school in Lab 10 (Mr Kiernan’s room)

Basic First Aid is also really important and will be covered but dates have to be confirmed when our volunteer Paramedic is available.

See you all in Lab 10.

We are up and running with this exciting development at PL, and you will hopefully now have thought about what you want to do for the 3 sections of the award.

If not, speak to your staff mentor and they will help you decide.

We also have a list of service opportunities if you are stuck for this section of the award.
