yes
yes and no cause on some websites it says no and on others it says yes
have had another look and found that no.1 is not a prime number.
no
Well done Sam, Grant and Kieran for posting an answer but remember I would like you to give some explanation of your answer. Why is 1 a Prime, or not a prime. If you have not yet posted your answer, I look forward to reading what you have found out.
The definition of a prime number doesn’t allow 1 to be a prime number: 1 only has one factor, namely 1. Prime numbers have exactly two factors, not “at most two” or anything like that. One is neither a prime number nor a composite number, but a unit.
Hi,
now that the kids have had a go, I thought I might too.
No 1 is not a prime number. Prime numbers have 2 factors themselves and 1. The number 1 has only 1 factor, itself.
Hope I haven’t got this too wrong as I enjoy all these maths teasers.
Thanks
No 1 isnt a prime number because a prime number can be divided by itself and 1, 1 can only be divided by 1 which is itself.
1 isn’t a prime number because a prime number can be divided by one and itself but 1 can only be divided by 1 which is itself.
1 cant be a prime because it only has one factor - itself - whereas 2 has two factors - itself and 1 - a prime number must have two factors no more or less.
1 cannot be a prime number cause when you divide it by itself you do not get an answer and it only has one factor.
