Welcome

Preston Lodge High School Drama department was established in 2004 as a result of a drama studio being built in the school by PPP. The studio is equipped with modern lighting equipment, which is accessible to all. The main hall has also gained a good quality lighting board and brand new lanterns. Ms. Gammie has built up a small store containing props and costumes. Drama has had great support from the staff in Preston Lodge and has been very well received by the pupils participating. The number of pupils taking up drama in S3 and S5/6 is growing every year.

Curriculum
Drama is currently not taught to first and second year pupils. In previous years, third and fourth year students studied and performed at Standard Grade level, however this years third year are following the Intermediate 2 course, which is of approximately equal difficulty, however it follows the same structure as the Higher course. Fifth and sixth year students studying drama at this time also follow the Intermediate 2 course, however there is a hope that Higher will be taught starting from 2008.

Staff
Drama is taught solely by Emily Gammie who is from Kirkcaldy in Fife. She studied in Newcastle upon Tyne at the University of Northumbria. She likes Theatre (obviously), reading, food (eating it not cooking it!), but dislikesprejudice, drivers who don’t indicate and mushrooms.

I think that Drama is equally as good as the other subjects and think that Drama should be a main subject taught within the school. ;)

In reply to Melissa. Drama is an important and very popular subject at Preston Lodge. The reason it is not taught as a “standalone” subject in first and second year is because we only have one Drama Studio and one Drama Teacher. The number of students who choose drama in S3-4 and S5 is remarkable when you consider that until 2004 we did not offer this subject. I am delighted that you enjoy Drama so much and are happy to tell everyone on this site. Thank you for your comments. :)

Great to see the new Drama site. I look forward to reading about work on “Teechers” - it sounds like it will be a production to remember ;)
