On Thursday 4 people from Edinburgh University came to show us their microscopes. It was really cool. There were loads of plants, bugs, mouldy food and everyday stuff like money (£5 note and velcro and stuff like that). The microscopes made everything really clear and almost 3D  - like the Sky HD advert on TV. We saw how  sticky willow had loads of tiny hooks on it that makes it sticky and that the £5 note lines are made up of tiny writing. The bugs were even more yukky when you got to see them close up !  Its was brilliant.

Then on Monday we travelled away to play East Linton. This was another close game played in sweltering heat and the score ebbed and flowed. However Pencaitland again emerged triumphant in the end with a 6-5 victory.

Our final engagement of the year is at the highly anticipated Hibs tournament taking place at Hibs training complex at Ormiston. We will be up against some large schools but I am sure we will do the school proud again.

Stewart & Harry - super bloggers

A massive thank you to everyone who helped before, during and after the Spring Fayre on Saturday.  We raised an amazing £2,518 which will be go towards the school garden, outdoor musical instruments and other improvements for the playground as well as an an interactive voting system for the electronic whiteboards in classes.  A list of all competition winners and raffle winners is now attached.  Again a huge thank you to the very many people who gave up their time to support the event - it is greatly appreciated! 

Pencaitland PTA

Yesterday, Pencils R Us, the P3/4 stationery shop opened ‘its doors’ for the penultimate time this session. We have all had a lot of fun, taking on responsibility for stock control, selling, counting the money and crowd control (a very important role at busy times!)

With the profits made, we recently rewarded ourselves with a Bopit game for the class. We will be opening the shop for the last time this session on Thursday 18 June and look forward to seeing you there.

Our garden is coming along well and the children are  enjoying taking care of all the different plants. We’re hoping our first crop of tatties will be ready before the end of term. Scotty, our fairweather scarecrow, is doing a terrible job of keeping the sparrows off our seedlings though, so our radishes may not survive! We also have slightly more exotic fare growing in the polytunnel so let’s hope we get the promised heatwave - it would be lovely to eat our own home-grown melons and aubergines!

Finally, a big thank you to everyone who has helped in nursery this year and Good Luck to the new P1s. We’ll miss you!

Recently we have been finding out about invertebrates - creatures without a backbone.  We found that there are 5 groups of invertebrates:

• Molluscs
• Insects
• Crustaceans
• Arachnids
• Annelids

The class split into 5 groups to share with everyone else some of the information we have found out about these creatures.

We hope everyone found out something new and interesting.
