Gardening

P2/3 have made a start in the school garden. We weeded, added compost and then planted potatoes, radishes and nasturtiums. We also planted seeds indoors which will be transplanted later. Alex brought a lavender plant which will hopefully help to keep the cats out of our border!

Road Safety

As part of our Safety in the Community project P2/3 invited Bill the lollipop man to talk to us about Road Safety. The children asked him lots of relevant questions and Bill was able to give us good tips on how to stay safe on the roads. We were also very interested to hear about [...]

Windchimes

P2/3 made some fantastic windchimes. We brought some from home to get ideas, chose suitable materials, planned, took great care in the making process and displayed our results. We are very impressed.

The Art of Recycling!

P2/3 have been using recycling for our art sessions during our current topic of Materials and how they change.
We used twisted newspaper to make winter trees. We also used coloured plastic bags which we cut into strips and plaited to make bracelets and we used 3D junk boxes to make models.  What do you think [...]

Don’t We Look Great!

Last Wednesday parents and friends were treated to a wonderful nativity play, ‘Born in a Barn’ performed by P1, P1/2 and P2/3 classes.  The songs were incredibly catchy and the audiences were singing along.  Well done to all the children who took part.  Don’t we look great in our costumes?

Children in Need

Last week Primary 2/3 decided to raise money for Children in Need. We completed an obstacle course and were sponsored by family and friends. We also asked P1 and P1/2 to donate coins to cover a picture of Pudsey bear. After counting the money that was collected we led an Assembly for pupils and parents [...]

A Roman Feast

P2/3 celebrated the end of our Romans project with a Roman feast. We ate grapes, dates, raisins, oatcakes and honey, and drank fruit juice. After eating Roman style, we were entertained by members of the class. A great time was had by everyone!

Roman Mosaics

Primary 2/3 have been learning about the Romans in class.  We looked at the mosaic floors in roman villas and produced our own designs.  We hope you like them!

Making Maps

In P2/3 we have been working on our mapping skills. We went for a walk to the crossroads in Pencaitland looking out for landmarks. When we came back we drew maps with directions for getting to our school. We also thought about road safety when we were crossing the road, so we wrote instructions for [...]

Raising money for the guide dogs for the blind

The infants were raising money for guide dogs for the blind. P2/3 organised a target game at 10p a go. Toby won a certificate for getting 3 beanbags in the puppy’s mouth. We raised almost £20.

St Andrew’s Day Assembly

P2/3 presented a St Andrew’s Day Assembly to Infant classes and parents. The children shared their knowledge of St Andrew and Scottish customs, and recited a verse of ‘To a Mouse’ by Robert Burns. Our Scottish country dancers performed for us and we closed the Assembly with ‘Flower of Scotland’. A great time was had [...]

Reach for the Stars!

The Royal Observatory planetarium visited P2/3 and P3 today. This is what the children thought of it:

Some video clips of space exploration
An interactive space map
We will be looking at constellations soon. Get a sneak preview of what they are [...]
