Primary 4/5’s day out

Never mind the World Twenty20 Cup - Pencaitland’s been the place to be for exciting Cricket for the last 6 weeks as several P3/4s and P4s joined in the Cricket After School Club.

Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside

Today P3/4 and P4 spent a fun-packed day at the beach. First of all we went rock-pooling to Yellowcraig beach where we found a lot of sea creatures. We then had lunch on the beach in North Berwick and spent the afternoon in the Seabird Centre where we learned all about puffins.

Invertebrates Really Are Interesting!

On Friday Primary 4 lead the upper school assembly.

Recently we have been finding out about invertebrates - creatures without a backbone.  We found that there are 5 groups of invertebrates:

Molluscs
Insects
Crustaceans
Arachnids
Annelids

The class split into 5 groups to share with everyone else some [...]

The Great Egg Race 2009

Primaries 3/4, 4 and 7 have joined together for The Great Egg Race 2009!

A Star Performance!

This afternoon the P3/4s and P4s presented their Easter show ‘Here Comes Jesus’ to the parents, brothers and sisters, grannies, grandpa’s, aunts, uncles and friends. It was a great success. Everyone worked really hard and this showed through the fantastic acting and singing. Well done everyone!

Here Comes Jesus!

Primary 3/4 and Primary 4 treated the rest of the school (including the Nursery) to the dress rehearsal of their Easter show “Here Comes Jesus”.  We will be performing the show for parents of P3/4 & P4 on Wednesday afternoon at 2:15pm.

Outdoor Education with P3/4 and P4

Powwow at Pencaitland

4 weeks of work came to an exciting conclusion yesterday as we welcomed a P4 class from Sanderson’s Wynd school for a Powwow:

A wee bit o’ Burns

This afternoon, P3/4 and P4 had their Burns Supper rehearsal which was performed to the whole school. We are very much looking forward to the evening performance tonight. We will keep you posted on our success and will let know how much we raise for charity.

Visit to Celtic Connections in Glasgow

On Monday P3/4 and P4 got their Burns week off to a flying start with a visit to Glasgow Concert Hall for the Celtic Connections concert. This is part of the launch of the Homecoming Scotland programme and is also the start of a very busy week for both classes.

Powwow Continues Through Dance

Our Powwow continued with a dance session last week.  Half of the class were buffalos and the other half wolves.  When we perform our dance we will be carrying masks instead of hockey sticks!

Mondrian with a difference!

Primary 4 have been looking at the work of Piet Mondrian.
We noticed that his paintings had the following in common:

Black vertical and horizontal lines
Squares and rectangles in red, blue and yellow

We created our own Mondrian style artwork using a variety of different media:

Burns Supper Blether

Primaries 3/4 and P4 have been really busy organising our Burns Supper and have been fortunate enough to be able to hold a Glow Meet session with Millersneuk Primary in East Dunbartonshire. P4 in Powwow

Primary 4 are taking part in an arts programme called Powwow.  We have just had our first session in which we looked at the Native American creation story through drama.
We have another 2 drama sessions, 2 dance sessions and an all day art session to look forward to.  Watch this space for details…

PPS is GLOWING!

Primary 4 have just been video conferencing with Athelstaneford Primary School.  We set up a link through GlowMeet:

We could see them at the top of our whiteboard, we could speak to them using a microphone and we could send them messages by writing on the whiteboard.

The party season got off to a great start with the P4 & P5 Christmas Party on Monday.
