P6 - week ending 29th August

Monday:On Monday we did some reading, lots of books being read and no noise whatsoever! What a quiet time for p6! SSSSssshhhhhh! One group has started the book “framed” by Frank Cottrell Boyce and its really funny. We have also being doing some practice quizzes for the accelerated reader to see what books we will get. We also did an experiment on static electricity where we made dancing snakes.

Tuesday:On Tuesday we did experiments, we rubbed a balloon with Mr Cain’s daughter’s tights (cut up into bits), bent a paper clip, covered the end in tin foil and put a fake butterfly on it and made it fly! This happened because the tights had lots of particles called electrons and when we rubbed it onto the balloon the electrons passed on to the balloon as well. But then the balloon had too many, so when we put it near to the foil the balloon dumped all the extra electrons onto the foil, but electricity passes through metal so it went through the foil into the paper clip and passed through that into the butterfly! The tissue paper does not have enough electrons so it takes them for its self! and because both wings get the electrons it makes wings repel (push apart)!

Wednesday:On Wednesday we did ICT. We learned how to make a powerpoint presentation! it was fun and learning at the same time! We chose the background and learned how to add in wordart to make it more fancy. Next week we will learn how to add pictures as well.

Thursday:On Thursday we watched people demonstrate judo. They taught us 1 throw and 1 hold-down. We also practiced our handwriting and did more hockey.

Friday:On Friday we did art. Since we are doing electricity we made a lightning animation with paints, first we got 2 cards, painted a blank cloud on 1 and lightning on the other, then we selotaped them to a stick and there you have it! when you spin it around in your hand you can see it like the lightning is coming out of the cloud - like an animation! See- easy peasy lemon squeesy!
We also made a lightning sketch using a rubber!

PHEW!

Gosh - What a lot you have learned in a week P6. - Well done! Perhaps some of these activities can be set up in the science tent. I am sure lots of other pupils would like to try them. Keep up the good work.
