Sieving Solids
Today we discovered that we can sometimes separate mixtures by using a sieve. This only works when the mixture contains solids of different sizes. We brought in colanders and sieves from home and used them to separate some sterilized compost into solids of four different sizes. We started with a colander with large holes, this gave us solids of largest size. We took some of the material which had passed through and sieved this to get the very finest and smallest pieces. We looked at all four samples through a magnifying glass so we could better see the different sized particles.
