Life Cycles
Lesson 8 - 21/05/07
Todays lesson started with Mr Cain reading us the “The Hungry Caterpillar” again. We had read it before in nursery and P1 but it was good to see the book again. After we finished reading the book we discussed all the stages the caterpillar goes through. Starting out as an egg, he hatches as a tiny caterpillar, then he gets a bit bigger as he eats, and a bit bigger and finally becomes a large caterpillar. He then goes into a cocoon and comes out as a butterfly. We found out this is called a life cycle because the butterfly would lay another egg and the whole process would start again, going round and round without stopping.
In groups we then wrote down what we knew about the stages in a frogs life cycle, and came back as a class to discuss the results. We then compared the frogs life cycle to the butterfly life cycle and taked about what was the same and what was different. We then made some life cycle wheels to show the correct sequence in both the frog and butterfly life cycles.
