How many Qualifications do you need to be in the R.A.F?
- If you have no qualifications you can still be in the RAF Regiment, who are soldiers employed to defend the Royal Air Force on the ground. However many of the jobs in the RAF are highly skilled, such a being a doctor or an engineer, and you often need to have a degree. If the Royal Air Force think that you are the right sort of person they will sometimes pay while you get your degree.
Is the F-16 falcon the best fighter today?
- It is hard to say which is the best fighter. Do you choose which is the fastest, the one that can turn the most quickly or the one that can carry the most weapons? You also have to think about which is the most expensive to buy and run. I personally think that the Eurofighter Typhoon is a very good fighter. The only way to really tell which is the best fighter is when there is a war with another country which has nearly as good fighters, and thankfully there are not any wars like that at the moment.
Why is the red Arrow an English show jet?
- A lot of air forces have display teams to show people how good their flying is. It helps to encourage people to join, and shows everyone in the country who pays for the air force, everyone who pays taxes, that they are not wasting their money. The Red Arrows is the display team of the Royal Air Force so it is a British display team and not just an English one. The aeroplanes they use are BAE Hawks.
Why is the SR-71A the fastest jet?
- The Blackbird, as it was also known, could fly at Mach 3.2 or over three times the speed of sound. It did this by being very streamlined. Streamlined means it is a very smooth pointy shape so that the air flows round it easily and slows it down as little as possible. It also flew very high so there was less air to slow it down. The engines were very powerful which also helped. It was designed to fly high and fast because it was a spy aeroplane and the Americans who owned it wanted to be able to go places and spy on people without them ever knowing.
Why are jets used for war?
- Propeller aeroplanes cannot go much faster than 500 miles an hour, if you want to go much faster than that you need a jet or a rocket. Rockets are expensive compared to jets and more difficult to control. When you are flying in a war you want to go as fast as you can as this makes it difficult to shoot you down. Jets help you to do this.
I hope this helps.
