Europe Challenge!

On tuesday the class started a challenge linked to the Europe topic - in Home Teams they are to create a 3D map of a country in Europe. The challenge is going really well with most people feeling they have achieved quite a lot.Watch this space for the photos. 

With the warmer weather come the outdoor sports sessions.

Today we had the first of 2 rugby taster sessions. It was a fab day and everyone enjoyed themselves. Remember to bring your gear next Friday as well.

Shadow puppets

We were also learning about light and shadow and decided a good way to learn would be to make shadow puppets. What do you think of our show?

In January P5 went to Dominoes Pizza in Musselburgh to learn how to make pizza. Great fun was had by everyone - I didn’t get to go !!!

Orienteering

Last Tuesday we went to Newhailes with the Outdoor Education team to learn about orienteering. Great fun was had by all and thank you SO MUCH to the parents who accompanied us on this [ and all the other visits ] making it all possible.

 

CASTLE CHALLENGE

Last Thursday P5 held a castle challenge. Working in groups we had to design and make a castle .It had to have a working drawbridge,towers and at least one other feature of a castle. A lot of mess was made but everyone worked very co-operatively and we had great fun.

Stone Keeps

Next we moved on to Stone Keeps. These castles started to be built when people realised that they were easier to defend because the rooms were built on top of each other instead of side by side.Preston Tower is an example of a stone keep.

 

Learning about castles in medieval times!

We have been learning aout castles for our topic work and 5G took the decision that making models would be a cool way to learn. We firstly made Motte & Bailey castles using plasticine, card board , matchsticks and assorted other materials. We hope you think that they look good.
