WILD POEMS!!!!

In primary 3 the children have been learning how to use Thesaurus’s and they have also been looking at rhyme in poetry during writing lessons. The children combined these two skills to write synonym poems. Here are a few of them, I am sure you will agree that they are excellent!!! :)

WILD
Protected, natural, untamed,
We don’t want wildlife maimed.
by Nicholas

WILD
Natural, undomesticated, free,
Wildlife needs me.
by Naomi

WILD
Free, natural, untame,
Protecting wildlife is out aim.
Untame, free, natural,
wildlife is factual.

Litter pick

On our 3rd and final visit to Woodhall Woodland P3 conducted a litter pick to contribute to the conserve challenge in The John Muir Award. The children all had grabber hands and managed to fill 6 bags! The children are so determined to keep Woodhall litter free that they have launched a poster campain around the village! Keep you eyes peeled for their fantastic posters!

Perspective Artwork

Last week the children were exploring perspective in Art. We created a folding card which first appeared to be the woodland from a distance but when opened up showed an up close view of what you may see in the woods. Here they are……….

Ecolab

This week we were lucky enough to have a visit from Ecolab. P3 were learning all about the importance of recycling. They then made their own composter!

Homes for our feathered friends

This afternoon if you had happened to come close the P3 classroom you would have heard ‘BANG, BANG, BANG…….’ for quite some time. With the help of Richard and Caroline, Forest Rangers, P3 were making bird boxes. This is to fulfill part of the conserve challenge of The John Muir Award. The children all did so well and our thumbs are all still intact thanks to their careful hammering! The boxes are complete and look fab! All that remains is for Richard to drill holes in the front and then we can decide where we will put them. They will be taken to Woodhall Woodland on our next visit where the rangers will attach them to trees.

Thank you so much to Richard and Caroline for all their help today.

John Muir beleived that all living things were dependant on one another and that we are all connected. Richard English the Forest Ranger demonstrated this with the children using a practical activity involving role play and a lot of string!!!!

Wildlife Crime

P3 have been learning about wildlife crime and prevention. We have been lucky enough to have been given lots of wildlife protection goodies. These include a ‘Nature Detective Spotters Guide’, bags, pens, pencils, rulers, bookmarks and pencil cases. Each child in P3 will receive a bag of goodies, but there will be things left over. These will be used for prizes for a quiz which the children will make up questions for. We are also hoping that we can get a wildlife protection police officer into the class to talk to the children.

Green is…….

The children wrote rhyming poems describing what ‘being green’ meant to them. Here are a few of them.

Green is as bright as the grass

Green makes the life pass

Green is clean water

Green is the environment

by Nicole R

Green is nature when we’re walking in the woodland

Green is when we recycle and our place turns into a new land

Green is composting to help worms eat

Green is not shooting animals to make us meat.

by Catherine

Green is a waterfall

Green is an animals call

Green is sometimes tall

Green is mostly small.

The Human Tree

P3 made a human tree. We had roots, they went slurp because they were drinking water. We had the trunk which went grrr grr because it was very strong. Some people were pretending to be tubes inside the trunk, they went woosh because they were sucking up the water to the top of the tree. The rest of us were branches and leaves they went chugga chugga like a factory because they were making food for the tree.
