Subpages for School Newsletter - June:

May Newsletter

Communication
Good communication keeps a school running successfully and is key to ensuring that everyone knows what is going on. We are planning to trial a texting system where we can send messages instantly to mobile phones. This could be for a range of things including reminders about school trips, information about school events and to pass on good news about your children in a speedy way. We’ll give you a little more information when the system is in place.

Staffing
We are delighted that Ms Knox has begun teaching P5 to cover Ms Cowan’s maternity leave. Mrs Ross has been appointed to the post of Acting Principal Teacher until Ms Taylor returns and she will continue to teach primary 2 until the summer holidays. We have a vacancy at the moment for a playground supervisor. This is a great job with not too many hours so please encourage any interested parties to apply.

Do you work for the Royal Bank of Scotland?
The Royal Bank run a programme to help schools develop their grounds to make them exciting fun places to play. In order to qualify for the scheme we need to be nominated by a bank employee. If you know of anyone who works in the bank who may be willing to put our name forward then please get in touch with us in school.

Comments Forms
Thank you to the people who have returned these. It is helpful to be able to get a flavour of how people feel about school. I

would be grateful if these can be returned by Friday the 2nd of May.

Vandalism
We have had a spate of vandalism in the playground recently. This has involved people using the grounds at night, smashing bottles and leaving quite a mess. We have been able to pass video clips from the
CCTV on to the police who have spoken to the people involved. Hopefully this will be the end of the matter.

Bikes
Several children come to school on bikes which is superb for having a healthy start to the day. However, very few children wear a helmet which is less safe for them. Please encourage your child to wear their helmet when bringing their bike to school. They are far too precious to risk an accident when it could be avoided.

Summer Walk
We are planning a summer walk on Friday the 20th of June as part of our Healthy Schools programme of events. We will be selling pedometers at a cost of £2 and will be having a challenge to see who can collect the largest amount of steps over the weekend. We are planning to walk with the whole school around the local area and stop for a picnic lunch (weather permitting!) so please leave the day free in your diary and you can come along and join us. It will be a great kick start to getting into your summer wardrobe if the weather ever improves to have us out of our winter woollies!

Punctuality
The bell rings at 8:50am in the morning and again after lunch at 1:15. Please make sure that your child in class on time. I meet with Kathy Lamb who is our attendance officer once a month to discuss lateness and punctuality. If your child’s attendance is less than 90% we will be following this up. It could be by sending a letter or asking you to come into school for a chat about this. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries about this.

Blogging away on the website
We are concentrating this term on developing blogging in all of the classes. The blog is like a virtual diary where children and staff have posted entries on what they have been doing in school. It is really taking shape and it gives you a great insight into what the classes are doing. It would be lovely for people to leave comments when they have visited. The children love to think that others have actually been looking at them. It makes their hard work worthwhile! Computers are available in school if you don’t have access to a computer elsewhere so please just pop into the office. We are planning to run a session soon to explore the blog further so please watch out for this. Log on to http://edubuzz.org/blogs/ormiston and let us know what you think.

Indoor Shoes
All children should have a change of shoes to wear in school. This helps to keep our carpets clean keeps the school looking a welcoming place to be. You may receive a slip from time to time if your child has outgrown their old pair to let you know when they will need replaced. Thank you for supporting us in this way.

Competition
Sometimes newsletters do not always make it home and can lurk in the bottom of schoolbags or trays for a while with parents oblivious. To encourage the children to deliver them we will be having a competition each month with a prize for the winner. Please answer the questions below and return to the box in the foyer. The winner will be announced in the next newsletter.
Thank you very much for reading our newsletter.
