P4 Have a Special Visitor

Primary had a visit from Charlie last Thursday. Charlie is a European Eagle Owl. He was hand reared as a chick by Environmental Officer Carl, who came to talk to the class about his job in the local area.
Carl works as litter and dog warden for the Tranent/ Musselburgh area. He show us some pretty nasty pictures of what can happen to wildlife if caught in litter. He also talked about how long litter takes to decompose and how it can be recycled.

Kindness Awards

World Kindness Day 2008

The Eco group from last year and this year went to Ocean Terminal’s World Kindness Ceremony. We were told to meet outside Debenhams. It took place next to the Sky bar. In appearance was Ewen Hardie, he had walked from Edinburgh to London barefoot, with only 5 things: a machete, 2kgs of rice, tarpaulin, a pan and a matchbox. He relied on people’s kindness and by the time he got back he only had 1kg of rice left. Elizabeth Grubb the Lady Provice also attended the ceremony.

We were there because at our school we have organic uniforms. We also sell cotton bags and that morning at 9.15am we achieved our Green Flag.

P4 Learn about Volcanoes

Last Thursday, the class learned about how the Scottish landscape was formed millions of years ago. Then they got to make their own volcanoes with the help of Anne from Dynamic Earth. The pictures tell how much they enjoyed it!

Biodiversity Bamboozle

Biodiversity Bamboozle is about the World and the Earth and also about animals. You learn about rare animals, Endangered Species, Facts about animals and more about things to do with the Earth.
You also do quizzes and the team with the most points win. The person that is taking Biodiversity Bamboozle will give you voting pads and the person will tell you all about the animals that you will be voting about. Then that is when you get split up into groups and start talking about all the animals and voting about all the animals.
At the end of the session the person shows you lots of fossils of dinosaurs and lots more fossils about other types of animals I would highly recommend it to other children.

Green Flag

Good news was received today at Ormiston Primary school. We’ve now got our green flag! It has taken three years of working to reduce waste and recycle in school. This has been due to lots of effort from all the children, Mrs Wightman and the Eco- Committee.

Halloween and Fireworks -Nursery

To help us celebrate Halloween we made pumpkin lanterns to put our display and the children enjoyed the story ‘Room on the Broom’ by Julia Donaldson and ‘Meg and Mog’ stories. After Halloween we put our lanterns in the composter.
We made very sparkly firework pictures.

Autumn Time in the Nursery
