The biggest power drain is the screen. Turn down the brightness to the minimum you need and you’ll see batter life suddenly improving.If you haven’t adjusted it, they’ll default to being pretty bright. This can might make quite a difference.

Control brightness on the 4G model using the Fn key, together with F3 and F4, which have got bright/dark symbols on them.

Obviously, too, closing the lid when not in use will make a big difference, simply because it kills the screen.

More geeky one: It’s also easy to switch off the wireless transmitter, too, if you’re using it standalone and are trying to squeeze the most out of a charge.  Press Fn with F2 (which has a picture of a transmitter) to toggles it on and off. You can see if it’s on by the blue LED on the front.
