The North Berwick Malawi project really began in 2007 when Mrs Lowe (RME) visited Malawi and returned to school eager to share her experiences there with staff and pupils. She had visited a school in the rural north of Malawi called Katunguwiri Community Day Secondary School and was moved not only by the warmth of the welcome she received, but by the lack of facilities and the poor conditions of the school buildings.
The pupils there, however, are very proud of their school and eager to learn.
On her return to Scotland, it was agreed that NBHS would form a partnership link with Katunguwiri, giving pupils from both schools an opportunity to learn about each other’s lives.
S2 pupils compiled a scrapbook about North Berwick and our school and it has been sent to Katunguwiri.
