Holocaust Memorial Day January 29, 2010

The anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz on the 27th January 1945 was marked at North Berwick High School on Wednesday 27th January with a series of events including seminars and workshops on racism and discrimination. Pupils in S2, S5 and S6 were involved.  The day centred around the reflections of two S6 students (Lizzie Dalley and Daniel Crowe) who were selected to visit Auschwitz as part of the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Lessons from Auschwitz Project.  The highlight of the day was the talk from Harry Bibring, a holocaust survivor who was part of the Kindertransport to Britain.  Harry told the students about his harrowing experiences as a Jewish child during the Nazi regime and the subsequent death of his parents.  Harry’s memories were both sad and interesting and he embodied this year’s theme for remembrance, ‘The legacy of hope’.  The day ended with a moment of silent reflection followed by the beautiful vocals of Zoe Moskal Guy an S6 student, as she performed a song dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust.

Parent Council - Next Meeting January 20, 2010

Our next Parent Council meeting is on the 27th of Jan. 7:00pm in the Library.

Parent Council meetings are open and we always try to make the agenda as interesting as possible.

There will be a two presentations on the night that may be of interest to parents. One is on Restorative Practice and another is on GLOW (an online resource for education).

We are also actively considering how parents might offer up their skills and expertise to the school, involvement in the review of school policies, and the topical subject of funding raising. If this is something that interests you or you know something about, you are most welcome to come along.

In fact, if there is anyone out there who would be prepared to minute the meetings that would be great too, as we are currently short of a clerk!

NBHS 100 Club 2010 New Members wanted January 12, 2010

Please consider joining the 100 Club; a monthly draw which raises funds for homework diaries for all pupils through the PTA. (This cost is nearly £2,000.)  Each month there will be a draw with the lucky winner receiving a prize of £40.  Membership of the 100 club costs only £18. (Equivalent to £1.50 a month.)  Click here for an application form.  The 100 club has been running for a number of years with a faithful band of supporters who are much appreciated, however this year a lot of their children have now left the school and the club desperately need new members.  Please consider supporting the school by joining the Club, odds of winning are very good- much better than the lottery!  Good luck and thank you to all those who have supported the Club in the past.
