On Wednesday 11th June some First Years from North Berwick High School visited the P7s at Law Primary to answer some of our questions about going into S1. They were very informative and the P7s really enjoyed their visit.

We have some questions:
How much time do you have to get from class to class?
Whats the furthest you have to walk between class rooms?
Is there a good variation for school dinners?
Are the smart cards easy to use?
Is there usually a long queue?
Who do you ask if you get lost and can you wear black 3 quarter lengths trousers? Also are there long queues in the dinner hall at lunch time?
How long does it take to get used to where you have go for each lesson?
Also how long does it take to do lines? How do you get them?
Is it good going down the high street for lunch and is it good food at the canteen and at the sport centre?
How long did it take you to get use to the new time table at the High School ?
Is it difficult to get use to the longer school day and do you get very tired ?
Are the smart cards easy to use or are they hard ?
What is the most enjoyable lesson and what is the food like? We really liked our musical and Joe likes P.E. What sort of PE do you get and is there any chance of doing something like our Musical?

Hi guys! I see that most of you are looking forward to high school. Well to be honest it’s not good, It’s AMAZING! There are so many fun things about it!
Loads of the teachers are nice.
The cafe food is realy nice and there are loads of clubs like chess, and guitar! You can also go to the lodge and high street at lunch, but not at break, you can only go to the sport centre.
The lockers are realy useful as you can put all your stuff in them.
The subjects are usually great fun and not boring!

A lot of you are asking about smart cards. Well to use them all you need is the card (or a pin, you can get them from one of the kitchen staff). you go up to a machine and slot in your card (or type in you pin), then you put your coins in the top slot. Its that easy! Just remember to press the red button before and after you put your card in. To put notes on your card you have to go to the note machine. It is the nearest one to the hall. Make sure the note is flat, as the machine often dosn’t accept notes. if this happens just tell of the kitchen staff, and don’t worry, the card are easy to get used to!
To buy somthing, go into the place were they serve food and take what you want. Then go to the two desks and give them your card. Done!
To use your card to take out a book, go to the library, take the book you want, go to the desk, give the man the book and put your smart card on the black box.
You can get dicounts like 10% off at the sport centre if you bring your card allong when booking.
The breaks are 15mins long and lunch 50mins. If you go to the Lodge I recomend you leave about half past to twenty five to.
All the subjects you get are good. Here are as many as i can remember
H.E., Science, Art, English, French, Music, R.M.E., P.E., P.S.E., C.D.T., Geography, History, Modern Studies, I.C.T. and Maths. these are spread out through the week, with 6 lessons a day!

You can get lost but if so find one of the s5/s6 people (the people in blazers), or a member of staff. they will tell you were to go. Just tell your teacher if you fot lost. You wont get in to trouble for the first few weeks as you are new.
As i said before loads of the teachers are nice, and will be fare with you.
Punishments
There are a few punishments.
1. Stand out of class
2. Lines
3. Detention
4. Friday detention (one on friday for 4hours!)
You are aloud on the astro, as long as you have your PE kit with you.
Unfortuantley you don’t get ict much. i think its now been called buisniss education, or somthing like that.
Houses are Glen, Law, Caig and Fidra
I hope you enjoy your enduction days! Oh, you get your time table on Thursday for your classes. Make sure you don’t lose it over the summer!
