Guilty as charged! Also expecting to see in the next newsletter "failing to remember at parents' evening to press children's off switch before meeting with the teacher."
Waiting for next installment.

On lateness - I suspect MotherSoup might sympathise with you on this one, given her recent post. Why is it that it becomes far more difficult to get out on time in the morning as the end of the school year approaches?

On potential - I seem to remember that in one of the schools where my sister taught they joked (was it a joke?) that the prison at the end of the road was their finishing school.

On consultation - I'm with you on this one. I want to be consulted but when it comes to it I often find the questions so bland that I don't know what to say. Then I look in envy at those incisive, erudite people who always manage to make just the right point that I wish I'd thought of.

It is true that the children are not protected like the teachers are through Health & Safety Law. I sell specialist bags because my own children had problems with back pain.
It is important that they empty their bags daily and only carry what they need for the day. We need more parents to bring this to the attention of the Head teacher. There is a thirty percent increase in children with back pain since 1990 some secondary school children carry the equivalent of a fully laden microwave on their backs. It is a very worrying problem.

These concerts are great, aren't they. And you're right, it's one of the few opportunities to penetrate the mystery box.

I've just read Alan Blackie's comment and wonder what the problem is. Comments like what? Was it mine, or Spike's or the original post? It doesn't seem to me that any of these were casting aspersions about anyone's qualifications for the post. They're simply pointing out the difficulties of holding any position entitled 'Acting' anything. I'm not involved in the school in question but from AB's comment you would immediately suspect that 1) the post has touched a raw nerve and 2) the parents haven't been told all the facts.

Alan, did the school not tell us the facts?
I wasn't intending to cast doubt over anyone's ability to do their job, and if it came over that way I'm really sorry. What I meant was, are acting HT's sort of looking after the school so nothing bad happens while a permanent person is found? Or can they really move it along? I mean it must take them a bit just to work out what's going on surely?
Also, I would personally find it massively difficult to come into school with concerns over senior staff. If I can be unintentionally rude in a blog I can sit and think about god knows what I'm capable of in person. Rightly or wrongly I'd worry that it might affect the children. I know staff are professionals but they are people too (I hope!). Are you marked? I don't know. I don't mean that as an aspersion either.
