John Muir’s Birthplace

John Muir Project 3 Comments »

On Tuesday, we visited John Muir’s Birthplace in Dunbar. P3/4/5 learned lots of information about the man and learned that he was interested in lots of different things. He wrote books, he invented things and founded national parks. The class were able to walk around the three floors of the house and explore as they went. We will use this information to help us with our work towards our John Muir Award.

New Flags

Scotland No Comments »

The class decided that we should think about our country’s flag and how they would like to improve it. They worked with partners to discuss things that represent Scotland, such as tartan, haggis, thistles, castles and bagpipes. In their partners, they came up with a plan for a new Scottish flag and then sketched this out onto a flag-sized piece of paper. Once they had done this, they chose appropriate colours and finished their flags off. The class were very pleased with their results and plan to show off their flags around the school.

This week we have started our new topic of Scotland. We will be looking at the area of Scotland in general and learning more about historic parts of Scotland. Our focus will be on the geography of Scotland, e.g. cities, oceans, mountains, etc. We will also be learning more about some of our famous landmarks. The class will also be using Scottish influences in their art, writing and music, which will all contribute to our St. Andrews night on 27th November.
