We don’t get much chance for big self-indulgence, here in the Soup household, but that makes you enjoy little treats all the more. In the midst of the usual busy-busyness of a family weekend we’ve rather enjoyed ourselves with a bit of what we fancied.
We took out one of these ‘free’ trials for DVD rentals, compiled a wish list and waited, and the first DVD to plop onto the doorstep was two episodes of Jonathan Creek - an addition to our list inspired by a wave of nostalgia after watching a recent BBC tribute to Verity Lambert. Ooh, we did enjoy that. Eleven years ago. Crikey. Alan Davies doesn’t look a day older but what a different world! Mobile phones with aerials - ha, remember them? And I can clearly recall looking at Caroline Quentin and being aware how much larger she was than me. Now, alas, I think the balance has tipped somewhat…
And then for bedtime reading I’ve been curling up with the final volume in Jonathan Stroud’s Bartimaeus Trilogy. Alas, finished it already
We’ve not got any Offspring who have the right combination of interest in either of these, plus appropriate age range, so this has been a purely adult bit of indulgence. Who needs to head off to a health spa? I feel quite pampered right here…
