My favouritest computer died yesterday.
The one I blog on, for preference.
I’m having to make do as a stranger on a strange PC until we can sell our Firstborn child to make enough cash for a replacement.
Apologies if things are erratic for a while.
No flowers, please.

Who is the Masked Mother?
Published January 28th, 2008 in Education and Random lifestyle. 9 CommentsA generous friend once introduced me to the world of comic books by loaning me box after box of comics over a couple of years. I started as dismissively critical, and ended as an enthusiastic fan.
My preference was for DC and I do have a soft spot for Green Lantern. Aah, happy days… Of course, one key element [...]
Don has posted recently about how it is a privilege of his job - and a challenge, I guess - to provide people with the ‘big picture‘.
I’d hate Don’s job. I’m more comfortable in roles near the coal-face. I admire anyone who can look at things from a distance (Don illustrates his posting with a [...]
Children.
You rip your heart out for them and place it at their feet.
However much they trample on it, it’s still theirs, forever.
The pangs of childbirth are nothing compared to the heartache to come over the years.
I wept this morning over something an Offspring said at breakfast, and dissolved into tears again this afternoon when we [...]
As a youngster, I did enjoy a book called the Dragon Hoard by Tanith Lee; now, I think, sadly out of print, so I’m illustrating this posting with a scanned picture from my copy. It was a bit of a mickey-take on traditional fairy stories and ancient myths, and it made me chortle with laughter.
At [...]
There’s one thing you can say for Thursdays: there’s no more packed lunches to be made for the week.
I hate doing lunches. I loathed doing them for myself at high school and I dislike doing them still. I’m sure the school dinners are excellent, but money is tight, and as I can produce lunches for a [...]
There’s no such thing as a silly question…
What exactly is a Principal Teacher in a primary school, and what do they do?
Should parents be able to answer this?
Is there an easily accessible source of information for parents on jargon, titles, etc?
If there is, why can’t I find it? I’ve tried the Alphabetical Index of Education [...]
Some aspects of the media revolution arrive but slowly in the Soup household. While we always have numerous computer-ish devices on the go, we’ve never had a new telly. And the TVs we have had have always been less than high tech. So it’s not surprising that satellites, Sky and all that stuff has passed [...]
A big thanks to the weather pixies for starting the new term with ankle-deep slush.
All the fun of getting used to the school run again - but with wellies!
My heart sinks when I see stories about ‘pushy parents’ - like this BBC write-up of a Guardian article.
Ironically, this article is listed alongside another in which parents are encouraged to get more involved by reading to their children! Ever felt you can’t win?
Pity the poor parent trying to tread the fine line between supporting and being over-bearing, a [...]
