Hello yourself, world…

After umming and aahing about starting this blog since before half-term, I now find I haven’t actually thought about what to write for the first, virginity-losing post.

I’m here thanks to guineapigmum. She is coping with one of the worst years that anyone could experience and is still finding the time to chivvy gently at parents like me to get involved and get communicating. What a woman…

I think it could take me a while to get in-voice here. Opening my mouth (and usually putting my foot in it) is one thing, but doing so in an environment which might impact upon my children is quite a different matter. I’m here because I care passionately about my kids, and I’m keen to use this opportunity - still quite a new thing - to have a positive influence upon their schooling.

But - but, but, but…

… it is all too easy to imagine how this might affect my children. It shouldn’t - but it could: not all professionals are always able to act professionally. What assurance do I have that what I say here will not somehow worm in a negative way through to my children’s schooling. None, of course - I am responsible for what I put out here. And this is quite a new concept - there is no long-term research yet into what impact these programmes might have.

So, I’m giving myself permission to take this slowly, and be rather coy while I settle in.

That all sounds rather too wary! I’m really excited about this - and after all, it’s only a little blog, for goodness’ sake…

Welcome to edubuzz. I’ll look forward to reading more. Just one observation - by participating in our community you will influence a great deal more than just your own kids’ schooling.

Hello! Welcome! And I like the header. How did you manage that so quickly?

Hello Don, and thank you for dropping by. I’m cheered by your optimism - I’m happy to start by setting the bar pretty low while I find explore, listen and learn. Let’s wait and see.

Hi gpm! Tinkering with the header was a nice displacement activity instead of writing that first post. Picture manipulation is one of my strongest skills on the ‘pooter, so it seemed a good area to start. It is - as I’m sure you recognise - Gullane beach on an ice-blue winter’s morning. In fact: it’s worth of a posting in its own right…
