- Prelim Papers Prelim - 10th November 2006
Meeting at the Old Clubhouse to discuss the strategy for NQ prelims in East Lothian this year. It is agreed to purchase commercial papers for each school for Higher Computing, allowing departments to either write their own, adapt or use in their entirety. I later wrote a prelim for Higher Information Systems.
- Oracle Academy - 24th November 2006
A presentation and workshop on the new(ish) Oracle Academy qualification, part of the new DIVA initiative from the SQA. Jane Richardson from Oracle presented us with information and further resources. Read the full post here.
- Get Together at The Old Clubhouse - 26th March 07
An informal session for computing teachers to meet up and talk shop for the afternoon over lunch.
- Curriculum for Excellence - 14th February 07 (midlothian)
Meeting with East Lothian, Borders, Midlothian at Beeslack to hear from David Bethune on Curriculum for Excellence and it’s implications for Computing. Pleased to see a large turnout from East Lothian, and thanks to Paula (Midlothian Lead Teacher) for organising the event.
- Web2.0 session 1 - 9th March 07
The first in a 3-part CPD programme exploring the use of Web2.0 in Computing. Ewan McIntosh from LTS outlined some web2.0 tools we could examine more closely to set the scene. The next two sessions will focus on using the tools to deliver particular parts of the curriculum. You can read the CPD brochure here: cpd-session-leaflet.pdf
- Meeting with IT Services, John Muir House - 19th March 07
A meeting with Alistair and Karen to discuss the upcoming PC upgrades in the Computing departments. New hardware and software lists were scrutinised and agreed. Many thanks to IT for organising this useful meeting. Next step will be to confirm the final software spec and start trialling the machines.
- Future of Computing Conference - 3rd and 4th May 07
I was invited to take part in a seminar, conference and think-tank focussing on the problems in Scottish Computing education, and possible ways forward. A seperate page is available here.

A further meeting with Alistair to discuss the draft software spec.
- Web2.0 session 2 - 11th May 07
Second part of the Web2.0 CPD programme. Unfortunately Ewan had to call off at the last minute, but I stepped in and took the opportunity to focus on why we need to change in Computing - talking about some of the key ideas I took from the Glasgow conference.
- WIKI set up - 16th May 07
I have set up a new WIKIspace to drive forward the development of East Lothian Computing over the next year. We intend to achive two aims:
1. To bring Web2.0 technology to the fore in our subject
2. To set up a proper VLE for East Lothian Computing.
