On Wednesday, 1st July Eilidh, Ellie and Alex arrived at the Scottish Parliament to join the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament. The girls were invited as part of their prize for winning the Euro Poster competition. Unfortunately, the event took place during the summer holiday!

 The morning began with entertainers.

The gilrs attended the ceremony and were able to hear the address by Her Majesty the Queen in the Debating Chamber.

Lunch was in the marquee, Parliament Gardens where the girls met the MSPs. Here they are with Fiona Hyslop who is Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning. She is also MSP for Lothians.

Talking to Angela Constance who is a Scottish National Party politician and Member of the Scottish Parliament for Livingston.

John Swinney is the MSP for North Tayside and is currently Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth in the Scottish Government.

After lunch the girls were back in the Debating Chamber for a photo call. Here they are with Alasdair Morgan MSP, Trish Godman MSP and the Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson MSP.

On Monday the 22nd June 2009 the staff, parents and children had an enjoyable time dancing and singing the night away- well almost. The school was looking its best and with a few added special visitors just for fun! Thanks to everyone who helped out and to the children and their families who, as always, make school events such good fun.

The children have made and sold such items as sprigs of heather for Burns Day, St Valentine’s Day cards and fridge magnets and Easter gifts. Today the pupils were making sock puppets.

This weekend I was invited to Nottingham for the UK eTwinning Awards 2009 ceremony. Mid Calder Primary School was awarded a runner up certificate for the primary 6 project – Citizenship/MFL. The project is all about our partnership with École Antoine Pizon and the mascots, Coco and Hamish. The project was on display along with Coco and received many favourable comments. Coco had a great weekend and is now having a well deserved rest after an exciting week in Aviemore!
