The Tulip Touch Critical Review

I am writing a critical review on The Tulip Touch which was written by Anne Fine. The genre of the book is a thoughtful, friendship novel. The story is told by one of the main characters in the book (Natalie). The novel is about a mistreated girl who becomes evil and also the effect it can have on other people. The idea of the novel is very good because Natalie gets sucked in to Tulip’s mind games and it gets worse and worse. Then it gradually diminishes and the friendship goes down hill. Suddenly it just drops completely when Natalie decides that’s it. The climax of the novel is when Natalie has a change of mind and decides to get away from Tulip.Natalie and Tulip first meet when Natalie and her dad are walking through a field. Natalie sees Tulip holding a cat and runs up to introduce herself. Natalie became friends with Tulip because she was intrieged with Tulip so she asked if they wanted to be friends. None of the other children like Tulip because she was never at school. The drawbacks about being Tulip’s friend are no else would be friends with you, you couldn’t go to her house and she would never turn up for school. Tulip had all control of the relationship. Natalie did enjoy most of Tulip’s games but she hated the fact her grades were going down. When the two girls moved up to the high school Tulip tried to get Natalie to reconsider the relationship by avoiding all seperation from Natalie. Tulip behaved that way so he would have someone to control.Natalie decides to get away from Tulip because Tulip has taken everything far and it’s getting depressing for Natalie.

Natalie changes in a positive way as a result of ending her relationship with Tulip. Tulip gets revenge by burning down the palace (Natalie’s House). At the and of the book no one tried to help Tulip so Natalie feels guilty.

I really enjoyed the ending of the book (Part 3). I think Natalie did tryto help Tulip but eventually she gave up as it was effecting her to much. I don’t think Tulip was evil but I do think she was confused as she had been mistreated by her father and has learned all the wrong things from him.

The Basketball Final

We always lose against this team
The difference in ability is quite extreme
We got to a final again this season
We cannot lose that’s just treason
I’ve been told to play from the start
Even if we’re losing I musn’t lose heart

The players tip-off at great speed
This team is good we better take heed
One of our players who is 7ft tall
Runs past a player with the ball
With great surprise I look to see
We’ve got a basket oh Yip-eeh!

Across the court I have to run
Too late they’ve scored and now we’re done
We lose the ball again and again
Now the score is two to ten
We’re gona lose I’m sure of that
I wish I wore my lucky hat

It’s the second half here we go
They’ve got the ball oh flippin’ no
One of their players who is really round
Pushed our best player to the ground
The bench is for him because of that
Oh no he sat on the ball and made it flat

The cup is theirs it’s already gone
It will be lifted by their captain John
There’s the buzzer it’s now full time
The score ended at 24 to 9
They lift the cup with a great roar
While we’re walking through the changing room door

Their so good I can’t call them rotters
you have to admire the Harlem Globtrotters
