My Basketball Poem

The Basketball Final

We always lose against this team
The difference in ability is quite extreme
We got to a final again this season
We cannot lose that’s just treason
I’ve been told to play from the start
Even if we’re losing I musn’t lose heart

The players tip-off at great speed
This team is good we better take heed
One of our players who is 7ft tall
Runs past a player with the ball
With great surprise I look to see
We’ve got a basket oh Yip-eeh!

Across the court I have to run
Too late they’ve scored and now we’re done
We lose the ball again and again
Now the score is two to ten
We’re gona lose I’m sure of that
I wish I wore my lucky hat

It’s the second half here we go
They’ve got the ball oh flippin’ no
One of their players who is really round
Pushed our best player to the ground
The bench is for him because of that
Oh no he sat on the ball and made it flat

The cup is theirs it’s already gone
It will be lifted by their captain John
There’s the buzzer it’s now full time
The score ended at 24 to 9
They lift the cup with a great roar
While we’re walking through the changing room door

Their so good I can’t call them rotters
you have to admire the Harlem Globtrotters

Colin I really liked this poem. This was the one you read out in class, wasn’t it? I think many students appreciated the fact that you were prepared to read a poem you had written yourself.

Well done on the cross country too - a great achievement.
