Arkwright Scholarship Winner

Well done to Michael Heneghan who has been successful in gaining a two year scholarship within the Arkwright Foundation.

Michael had to sit both a written examination and attend a gruelling interview, where he completed a presentation based around his work within the CDT department last year.

More information about the foundation can be found at the following: www.arkwright.org.uk

Here is a photograph of Michael receiving his certificate at the ceremony in London last month.

S2 Tealight Project

Following on from the Oil Burner here is another nice little project which is designed to hold two tealights. The same approach is taken in that the pupils research and sketch initial ideas, model their final design in a 3D modelling package (prodesktop or inventor) then manufacture the finished article. Their design work is put together on a single sheet of A3.
We are also trialing, scanning the finished work and uploading the jpegs into scraplog which is a free online blogging site this will allow the pupils to view thier work from home.

S2 Craft and Design Oil Burners

Mr Gallagher’s S2 class have been busy designing Oil Burners. They were asked to produce freehand sketch ideas, prodesktop modelling and CAD drawings before manufacturing their products.
Here are some examples of thier work.

S3 Craft and Design Projects

The new S3 are starting to complete their first design project.  Here are some early pictures.  More to follow.

2008 Higher Graphics “New Work”

The higher class are finishing up their thematic presentation folios ready for moderation at the end of this month.

This year the pupils had the opportunity to export their Prodesktop models into Inventor and use the much more powerful rendering engine to further enhance their creations.

Here is some examples of Scott’s efforts

Adidas Designer Visit- photos

Sorry there has been little activity since Christmas, I have been kept busy with School stuff!

Here are the photos from the activity day with Gregor (the ex pupil turned Adidas Designer).

It was a great day and the work that was demonstrated has inspired both my staff and the senior pupils who attended.

We have now bought a graphics tablet to develop our skills in this area which will lead to our pupils enhancing their SQA portfolios.

Nice work!

Ex-Pupil Turned Adidas Designer!

We had a great day when Gregor McWee came back to the department to put on a workshop and presentation of his work.

Gregor (28) now works for Adidas at their head office in Germany and we were delighted whenb he contacted me to ask if he could come in to speak to pupils interested in the design industry.
40 senior snapped up the opportunity and spent three hours plus working with Gregor.
It was a fantastic day and both Gregor’s work and the style which he adopted during the presentation made sure that all the audience were offering their full attention.
Prizes were offered for the best work.
Unfortunately my feet were too big for the boys trainers!!!!

Thanks again Gregor.
