Posted by K Fitzpatrick in : Uncategorized , comments closedEveryone has been working hard all term to get points for their house by wearing school uniform, coming to school on time and general good behaviour. St Patricks were the winners for term 1 and their treat was a Christmas party, organised by Miss Fitzpatrick and Miss Pottie. We had dancing competitions and played lots of party games. It was great fun! Thank you to Mr Bonner who came along and helped out at the party.

P6 Christmas Charity
What a fantastic day everyone had! All of us in P6 worked really hard to make our enterprise project as successful as possible and boy was it successful - so many people turned up to support us and our charity. We would like to thank everyone that donated their things, baked for us and came along to spend their money.
After a hard day at work buying and selling in P6 classroom we were all very tired. Miss Gilhooly said that she would take the money home to count and that we could all count it in the morning to double check what we had made - we all split up into groups and then together added all the money. We made an amazing £503.73! We are so delighted that all our hard work had paid off - it is great to know that with this money dogs will be trained to help deaf people.
Thanks again to everyone that participated in one way or another, we had a fantastic day and we hope you did too.
Please feel free to comment to give us some feedback

Posted by Janette Gaunt in : Nursery , add a commentThe nursery put on our Christmas show today for the parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends. The children have worked hard practising thier songs over the last few weeks, and performed really well.
The children sang Winter Wonderland, Twinkle Twinkle, Away in a Manger, Jingle Bells, Rudolph, When Santa Got Stuck up the Chimney, Here We go Round the Christmas Tree and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
A special mention should go to our stage manager, Arron, who kept us right on the day!
Many thanks to all the parents who have helped us with the party and show over the past 2 days. We couldn’t do it without your help!
Nursery Christmas Party December 19, 2008
Posted by Janette Gaunt in : Nursery , add a commentWe had our nursery Christmas party today, and had a great time. We had an entertainer who did some magic and put on a puppet show. We then ate our party food which we all enjoyed. We played pass the parcel and musical statues. We also danced the Conga and the Cha Cha Slide which was great fun! Santa found time to come to our party and brought the boys and girls a present of a book each.

P6 Christmas Charity Enterprise December 12, 2008
Posted by S Gilhooly in : Primary 6 , 1 comment so farOver the past few days P6 have been working very hard to prepare for our fundraising event that is taking place on Wednesday the 17th of December. We have made many things such as calenders, activity books, pictures, dog masks and we have been baking with Mrs Gaunt in the nursery so that we have baking for everyone to buy. We have also organised a raffle and games for all the children in the school to play and the P6 parents and families. We loved baking so much, while doing it we were learning about tessellation, weight and following instructions!
“The baking was great fun” - Ronan
“I really, really enjoyed it” - Aine B
“I’d love to go back to the nursery to bake” - Jamie
“That was amazing” - Kieran
“I wish that we could turn one of the extra classrooms into a kitchen then we could cook more often and we would learn more” - Aidan
Below are some photos of us enjoying ourselves with Mrs Gaunt in the nursery.
We have been busy writing letters to our parents to ask them to come to the fun day between 11am and 12 noon on Wednesday the 17th of December. We have also asked them to bake for us so that we can sell the cakes and biscuits to raise as much money as possible to help get dogs trained to make the life of deaf people easier on a daily basis.
We have also been around the school putting up posters to remind everyone about all the things that we will be selling and doing. We have visited all the classes to show them the items they can buy and the games that they can play and we are making a big point of reminding everyone to please make a big effort to dress as a dog for £1.00 - we think it would be great to see all the pupils and teachers of Loretto dressed as dogs!
Have a look at P6 in action preparing for our Enterprise Event below.

Badminton Club December 12, 2008
Posted by C Capaldi in : Primary 5, Primary 6 , comments closedOver the last five weeks, some children from P5 and P6 have been taking part in a badminton club. They have learned to control the shuttle, to return shots, to rally and ultimately to play a game of doubles. They finished with a mini tournament yesterday evening. Everyone has had a super time, worked very hard and improved their skills.
Miss Pottie and Mrs Capaldi would like to say a huge well done to all the boys and girls for trying their hardest!

P1F Enterprise - tartan day December 9, 2008
Posted by K Fitzpatrick in : P1F , comments closedOn Friday 28th of November P1F organised a tartan day to raise money for the Children 1st charity. We asked all the staff and pupils to wear a piece of tartan to school and bring in a donation for the charity. Some people wore ribbons in their hair or pinned tartan badges to their jumpers and we even had a few people wearing kilts and tartan pinafores. P1F also entertained their parents that morning with some Scottish songs, poems and dances. We managed to raise £110. Thank you to everyone who took part in our tartan day and made a donation to our chosen charity.

Posted by C Capaldi in : Primary 7 , comments closedThis morning, P7 had a visit from the Royal Observatory. We took part in an activity where we had to list in order of closeness some objects in the universe like planets, galaxies etc. We then had to do some challenging maths to discover the distances between the different places.

“I learned that if you went into a black hole, you’d stretch like spaghetti!” - Talia
“I learned that Pluto is no longer considered a planet because it is too small.” - Chloe P
“I learned that you can actually see a comet in the sky without a telescope.” - Holly

Posted by E Watson in : Primary 2/3 , 1 comment so farIn Primary 2/3 have been very busy working on our science project about Materials.
We have been finding out about different types of material, where materials come from and how they are used.
Last week we had a visit from a recycling expert who showed us how to sort materials to be recycled.
We made posters to remind everyone in school to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle their waste materials.
