The P6/7 pupils at Dirleton and Aberlady met Audrey, the French assistant from NBHS today and she comes from Lyon in the south-east of France. Just recently we had a post about the “Fête des Lumières” (Festival of Lights) in Lyon. She  explained that this is a really big event for the town and lots of visitors come to see it. She has gone to see it lots of times too! We all thought it looked fantastic! She also told us that the people who live in Lyon (Les Lyonnais) light little candles and put them in their windows too!

Aberlady P6 recorded an interview with Audrey so you could find out all about her as well! Merci Audrey - on s’est bien amusés et.. un grand merci aux élèves de P6 pour cette interview!

Les élèves du Collège Julien Franck nous rendent visite! October 6, 2009

Some of us are hosting French visitors this week. All very exciting! NBHS have an exchange with the Collège Julien Franck in Champigneulles which is in Lorraine in the north-east of France. (Law and Gullane write to their feeder primaries) They are bringing us some letters from our penfriends and we are really looking forward to meeting them and practising our French for real!

Maybe we could learn this song from Lorraine. They will all know it “En passant par la Lorraine” (avec mes sabots means with my clogs on).

Some of our big brothers and sisters in S2 are off on a ski trip to the Alps this week-end!  They spend the day in the bus down to Dover (we should have taught them this song!), then they get the ferry to Calais and then they drive through France all night to get there! C’est le petit-déjeuner en France! Croissants, pains au chocolat, chocolat chaud … miam-miam!

Quelle belle aventure!

Athelstaneford and Gullane were really lucky this week. They got to meet the new French assistant from NBHS. We spoke lots of French and found out all about her. She is hoping to come and meet the other schools very soon!

We also found out about Christmas in France. There’s a quiz here for you to try too!

Merci Sandrine et à bientôt!

Euro Quiz - bravo aux gagnants! December 1, 2008

We had a Euro Quiz at North Berwick High School. Law Primary entered 16 pupils. We decided on these pupils by doing a small quiz about Europe which was out of 20. When we went over we joined some other schools from East Lothian - Dirleton, Athelstaneford, Gullane, Aberlady. We got asked a couple of questions about France, one of the questions was what city and country the Eiffel Tower was in. Thank you to the 6th years for the pizza and all the food. IT WAS GREAT FUN!!!!!

We are in training for a quiz we are doing with NBHS and we are going to get all the questions on France right! Here is a good website to find out lots about France and remember there are some sites to help us in  “useful websites” too (under L’Hexagone which is another word for France - can you work out why it might be called that?). You could try this quiz as well.
