Pour s’amuser  - some games to play etc

Halloween has old Celtic origins - the 31st October was the end of the old year and the 1st of November the beginning of the new one. French children started to celebrate Halloween recently too but it is not as popular as in this country. We will have to find out if they dress up and go out guising like we do!

On the 1st November it is Toussaint which is the day when the French celebrate all the saints and on the 2nd of November it is “La fête des morts” which is when many French families go to the cemeteries to tend the graves of their loved ones and to lay flowers (often chrysanthenums).

La Chandeleur February 1, 2008

chandeleur.jpgLe 2 février c’est La Chandeleur. Many French people make crêpes and the tradition apparently is to hold a coin in your left hand and to toss the crêpe with your other hand. If you manage it your family will have enough money for the rest of the year. M. Curt hasn’t in fact heard of this but he is going to find out all about it and let us know.
