Last Friday P6 hosted their Invention Convention. Invitations were given to the P5s who were asked to visit a exhibition of our latest inventions. The P6 young inventors were set the task of creating an invention that used a form of energy to power their invention. Here are a few memories from the event:

Many thanks to Holly, Lucy and Isla (P6A). The girls decided that they would like to raise some additional money to support the school in Rwanda, recently visited by PC Walker. The girls produced their own homebaking, sold their delicacies around the town and managed to raise £150. Congratulations and many thanks as your money will really be appreciated.

P6/7 took their paired readers to do some health games for the health certificate 2008 just before the easter holiday. Councillor Berry came to award us with the 2008 health certificate and then we did whole school aerobics. Then we took our paired readers round the different playgrounds to do different health activities such as skipping and some playground games, parents could come and join in with the fun and buy Marie Curie daffodils to help cancer!

Happy Easter to all in P6. It has been a very hectic term which has seen lots of singing, dancing, dressing up, a murder and plenty of explosions!
On the 22nd February P6 celebrated Burns Night with their own ceilidh. A ceilidh committee was formed, including 2 members from each class, and they worked hard to organise the event. The committee were responsible for organising the acts, the music, the venue, the refreshments and the programme. They did a fantastic job and the event was great fun and a real showcase for the hidden talents of the P6 pupils (& teachers). Here are a few pictures to remind us of the event.

This term’s project has been `The Victorian Era’ and has proved to be very popular. We have learned about the living & working conditions for children living in that period, the numerous innovations that were developed and the fascinating lives of famous people of that era. The topic culminated in The Victorian morning, Thursday 13 March, when all the classes were whisked back in time (without the use of Uncle Crumble’s Time machine) and the pupils experienced a real Victorian school morning.
tmpphpyngbllvict.jpg Everyone dressed up, including the scary Heedie (Mr. Barnes) and the parents were invited into the classroom to witness the event. Our classes were tested on arithmetic, copperplate writing skills (on slates), empire geography and drill exercises. It was a scary and strict experience for all involved but enjoyable and memorable. Here is a record of P6c’s morning:

Then an unfortunate event struck North Berwick on Tuesday 18 March- a murder! Inspector Walker decided to enlist the help of P6 to help him to solve the mystery. After a day of investigation around the town we were shocked to learn that our own headmaster was the culprit! Thank you to Mrs. Barbour & PC Walker for all their hardwork in creating a fantastic day. Here are some memories of that day:

Our term ended wth an explosive visit from Dr. Bunhead who introduced us to many energy conversion experiments.

As P6 have been learning in our Victorian topic, Robert Louis Stevenson is one of Edinburgh and Scotland’s most famous writers (with local links to North Berwick). Next week there is a reading campaign being launched in Edinburgh and the idea is to encourage everyone to read Stevenson’s book; `Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde.’

Wildlife Safari on Astroturf February 8, 2008

P6 Pupils from the North Berwick cluster took part in a Hockey Festival on Wednesday 6th February. The children were organised into teams of 5, playing 8 minute games on 6 short pitches on the Astroturf. Exotic animal names eg. penguins, antelopes, ‘roos and sharks were the theme for the team names. The games were fast and furious with lots of goals. It was a great opportunity for the children to mix with others from the cluster schools and lots of new friendships were formed. Although a very cold day, the sun shone and everyone had a great time.
