P6 term update March 22, 2008

Happy Easter to all in P6. It has been a very hectic term which has seen lots of singing, dancing, dressing up, a murder and plenty of explosions!
On the 22nd February P6 celebrated Burns Night with their own ceilidh. A ceilidh committee was formed, including 2 members from each class, and they worked hard to organise the event. The committee were responsible for organising the acts, the music, the venue, the refreshments and the programme. They did a fantastic job and the event was great fun and a real showcase for the hidden talents of the P6 pupils (& teachers). Here are a few pictures to remind us of the event.
This term’s project has been `The Victorian Era’ and has proved to be very popular. We have learned about the living & working conditions for children living in that period, the numerous innovations that were developed and the fascinating lives of famous people of that era. The topic culminated in The Victorian morning, Thursday 13 March, when all the classes were whisked back in time (without the use of Uncle Crumble’s Time machine) and the pupils experienced a real Victorian school morning.
Everyone dressed up, including the scary Heedie (Mr. Barnes) and the parents were invited into the classroom to witness the event. Our classes were tested on arithmetic, copperplate writing skills (on slates), empire geography and drill exercises. It was a scary and strict experience for all involved but enjoyable and memorable. Here is a record of P6c’s morning:
Then an unfortunate event struck North Berwick on Tuesday 18 March- a murder! Inspector Walker decided to enlist the help of P6 to help him to solve the mystery. After a day of investigation around the town we were shocked to learn that our own headmaster was the culprit! Thank you to Mrs. Barbour & PC Walker for all their hardwork in creating a fantastic day. Here are some memories of that day:
Our term ended wth an explosive visit from Dr. Bunhead who introduced us to many energy conversion experiments.
VE day Celebrations! March 20, 2008
Posted by smacniven in : P7, events , 3commentsP7 pupils went back in time today and celebrated VE Day to commemorate the end of their WW2 project. All staff and pupils dressed the part and brought in food of the time, made flags to wave, put up bunting, practised their dance moves by jiving, sang songs and listened to the memories of veteran visitors who had lived during WW2. Great fun was had by all!

Well Done to all and especially all those behind the scenes who helped with lighting, staging, costumes, crowd control, art work and many other esential cogs that kept the wheels turning. What a team!

World Book Day! March 13, 2008
Posted by Law Upper in : events , 1 comment so farThis year world book day was on the 6th of March. Some of pupils dressed up as their favourite book character. Some classes wrote book blurbs and designed covers and the whole school brought in a book they had enjoyed. We put our books in a box which the library commitee decorated. All our book were donateed to children in 3rd world countries who are not as fortunate as us. We all wrote a message about why we liked the book inside. We hope the children enjoy them!
