The Simpsons come to Law Primary? September 26, 2007
Posted by smacniven in : Term 1 2007/08 , trackbackAll P7 classes will be involved in the “gene jury” this week. A debate and discussion about genes and how and why we are the way we are. Great discussions have raged and so many questions asked and answered. Pupils were asked to think about the idea of “designer babies” and how they could be made and indeed if they should be made! A very interesting workshop indeed! The pupils will share what they thought and learned here.

Finlay thought that you should be able to choose genes for your baby if you wanted to so it could be handsome or pretty.
Imogen and Fergus disagreed with this and thought that you should respect the baby you have, it is still a baby and accept it as it is.
Finn thought that it would not be a natural baby at all if you were allowed to choose its genes but it would be good to be able not to pass on life threatening diseases.
Eilidh felt that she had changed her mind since listening to what others had to say and totally agreed with Imogen.
i really engoyed the visit we had about genes , it was reallt interesting and the way she had used the simpsons as a example was great fun .

I thought that the talk about genes was very interesting and I especially liked the part when the Simpsons came on.
i thought the talk about the genes would be good and intresting if you understood all of it becouse i am not that smart so i did not really understand all of it! but o well everyone is diffrent!

Fergus said that it made him think and he learned that the mans gene is stronger than the womans genes.
Holly learned that the lady has two lady genes.
Peter learned that you can’t choose your genes and if the parents have an illness that they could pass it on to their child.
Mark learned that you can look inside an egg cell and tell if your going to be a girl or boy.
Anya learned that genes are inside cells.
Gary learned that you can choose your genes but only to stop diseases being past on.
Imogen learned that you can have the same gene as your grandmother or grandfather.
Finlay learned that you can have good and bad genes that can be taken out and it grows back.
Ciaran learned that it takes two girl genes to make a girl and one boy gene to make a boy.
Finn learned that it is 50/50 to be a boy and a girl.
i found the genes thing fun but i didnt understand all of it but i liked it xxxxxxxxxx
The ‘Gene Jury’ thing cool because we got these remote things and we got to answer qustions. My favrit part was when Oscar put on the Homer Simpson mask.
I think you should not be able to choose your babys genes because it woud not be a natural baby, but i think it would be good to choose the genes if there was a chance that the baby might have an illness.
i really enjoyed the vist from Larai.It got me thinking and i have learned alot.
I think you should be aloud to chose your babies genes,if it is a matter of health.
I really liked the gene jury. Lara was great, and i really enjoyed voting with the handsets
I thought the gene visit was very interesting and informative, I didn’t know how sickness in a family was passed on and I didn’t know that the boy gene was stronger than the girl gene!!!

i really enjoyed the gene jury but, i did not understand the the “doh” and “wooho”.
The gene jury was really good although i did not quite understand all of it !!!
The Simpsons are funny, but it was so much more funny when they came to school! I liked the Gene Jury.
I really liked the visit from lara.
But the handsets didn’t work!
