Posted by sallan in : Uncategorized , trackback Sixteen P6 pupils from Law Primary have been chosen to take part in a Cluster Euro Quiz at North Berwick High School on Friday 28th of November and we would like the rest of the year group to help them prepare. Please write some interesting facts about Europe to help our team. The facts can be related to one country or be related to something in general such as European sport, art, music, culture, geography, history, etc. The more information we can share the better!

Europe Day is celebrated on the 9th of May each year because on the 9th May 1950 the first move was made towards the creation of what is now known as the European Union, it is Europe’s birthday!
The European flag is blue with a circle of gold starts. It is the symbol not only of the European Union but also of Europe’s unity and identity in a wider sense. The circle of gold stars represents solidarity and harmony between the peoples of Europe.
The European Union has its own anthem. This is the anthem not only of the European Union but also of Europe in a wider sense. The melody comes from the Ninth Symphony composed in 1823 by Ludwig Van Beethoven and is called “Ode to Joy”.
There are 51 countries on the continent of Europe. There are 27 countries in the European Union.
I think it’s brillant that people are not just learning about the UK but other European countries too. Here are some intresting facts about Europe. Spain won the Euro 2008 football cchampionships and the capital is Madrid.
Two Thirds of France is made up From Mountains or Hills and France is the Second Largest Country in Europe
I think it is good that the people that are doing it are also getting to no even more about European and lets hope we win.
-Europe uses 25% of the world’s energy.
-Europe only produces 15% of the worlds energy.
-France was the most visited holiday places in the world in 2004.
There are rufly about 731,000,000 people in Euope.
The largest Cities in europe Istanbul, Moscow, London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Saint Petersburg, Milan, Berlin, Rome, Athens, Baku, Bucharest
The number of stars on the flag of the European Union is definitively 12.
In 1953, the Council of Europe had 15 members and its flag should have had one star for each member.
However Germany objected to the number 15 because one of the members of the Council was Saarland, and 15 stars would imply “star” sovereignty for that region.
France would not agree to 14 stars as that number would acknowledge the absorption of Saarland into Germany.
13 was ruled out for superstitious reasons.
12 was reckoned to be a “good” number because it had no political innuendo, and there are
* 12 signs of the zodiac;
* 12 hours on a clock;
* 12 months in a year;
* 12 apostles;
* 12 tables of Roman Law;
* and 12 starry crowns of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
I think that it is a great idea that we are having a europe quiz . Good luck everyone taking part.
Have fun
I think it is good that people are that did the Europe quiz
I would like to say thanks to everyone who participated in the Euro Quiz, the knowledge about Europe was very high! It was especially good to see all the Primaries coming together and getting along so well!
Like Alister, I would like to thank you all for coming to the Euro Quiz on 28 November, and especially to Mrs Antonelli for bringing you. All the sixth years were very impressed by the high scores you all achieved, some of them telling me they wouldn’t be able to do as well themselves as you did! We hope that you enjoyed yourself as much as we did organising it for you, and also that it will become an annual event! Thanks again, and well done to you all!
