‘ Forest School enables children to enjoy the outdoors in a supportive environment whilst providing a unique, active learning experience.’

For the last 6 weeks a number of P6 pupils have been involved in our first Forest School programme at Law Primary. The Forest School experience is a natural complement to the recent Woodlands project.
Over the last 6 weeks we have been busy, in the Whisky Bottle, trying lots of different activities; here are some examples of what we have been doing:
* leaf identification and leaf bingo
* created picture frames and made our own pictures from natural resources
* using a bow saw to make tree cookies
* mini shelter building
* whittling
* making a fire and using it to make damper bread
Here are some pictures from our Forest School experience. Thank you to those who were able to take part and to all those who helped. I hope you enjoyed it; it was a special experience for me.

Well done, Forest Schoolers, great to see you working together as a team. I loved the totem cookies.You even looked as though you enjoyed eating your bread.

Well done, folks! It was so good to see such lovely photos of you all in P6. I especially love your totem cookies…what a great idea! Miss Brodie is always delighted to tell us how well you are all getting on in the forest school project so well done to you all for your efforts. It was funny when Miss Brodie came into the staffroom with something following her…the smell of smoke from the fires you made!

Great to see another East Lothian school using its local woodland and developing a forest school programme - well done Miss Brodie for taking the extra training and good luck with your exam to be a forest school leader.
Well done Law Primary P6 forest schoolers - it looks as though you really enjoyed it.

After the 6 block of forest schools a man came to see what we were doing because that man that came had been doing a forest schools but in different places. I think that the people who did it were the first people to do it. Also when the man came because it was our very last go of doing it we just did some activities and the activities we did were, you had I bit of log and with only one of your fingers you had to lift it up as high as you could and then you had to put it down as slowly as you could. The other one was you had a parachute and you had to pretend to be a shark using tour hand like a fin. Then you crawled under the parachute which was being held stretched out by everyone else and touch someone on the knee and then they took a turn of being the shark. Another activity was you had to shake the acorns off as they were being thrown up and down on the parachute. Miss Brodie has been really great doing this with us
