Primary 5

December 2007

The Primary 5s

We have been learning about Light and Sound in Primary 5. We have looked at shadows, reflections and even seen inside a human eye! (Well, not really… just a diagram on the whiteboard!)

We had Miss Beaton and 5A’s fab assembly about making our school even more ECO friendly! Well done!

Miss Hackett’s class have been making their shadow puppets ready for their assembly in 2008!

Well done to all the skippers who now look exhausted after hours and hours of exercise in the gym hall today!

Seashore Topic Primary 5 were very busy at the beginning of term!  We have been learning about the Seashore and we have already been on our first trip to the beach with the countryside ranger.  The ranger showed us all the interesting sea creatures and told us all about the beach.  In class we have also been discussing safety at sea and have been lucky enough to have had a talk from the local coastguard! Next week we will visit the RNLI station in North Berwick where we will find out about rescues at sea.

Everyone in Law Primary took part in lots of healthy activites during health week which took place between Monday 3rd September and Friday 7th September.  Primary 5 had the chance to try various sports including hockey, golf, athletics, judo and water polo, which everyone really enjoyed!  As well as taking part in physical activites to help us keep fit, we also learned about how to have a healthy and balanced diet.  We all went to a smoothie making workshop where we were given a talk from the Food Lab team, then we created our own smoothies.  We tried lots of new fruits and learned about the benefits these have to our bodies.  Primary 5 also enjoyed a fruit and vegetable tasting session.  Some people tried things they had never tried before which was fantastic!  Afterwards, some classes conducted surveys about what each person’s favourite fruit was then they displayed the results on bar charts and pictograms.  At the end of the week, the whole school joined together for aerobics in the middle area playground.  The primary 7s, assisted by the Active Schools Coordinator, demonstrated all the moves to help keep our bodies moving!  We were all thoroughly worn out by the end of the week, however, it was great fun and we can’t wait until Health Week again next year!
