What we have learned this week in 5B

- We had our first French class and we learned how to count up to ten.
- We have begun the preparation for our First Golf lessons which start next week.
- We are learning orienteering in PE.
- Our very own Johannes was awarded this year’s Scots Afternoon Quaich for his outstanding performance on the flute (and for his fab kilt!). Congratualations!

We begin next week with a problem solving outing so please remember your spare set of clothes. Have a great weekend, Miss Brodie

P5B’s souvenir shop

Last week saw the anticipated opening of our own class shop, `Woolworths Number 2, North Berwick’. This shop stocks hand-crafted souvenirs of our town manufactured by local artist (us!!). The variety of goods available is outstanding and there is something for everyone; whether you want a model of the Law, a rugby ball or some handmade shortbread. We would welcome comments from the North Berwick public as we appreciate any feedback that you can offer. If you made a souvenir, how did you find the experience? Primary 5 Unveil Super Souvenir Shops!

P5 spent time designing and creating souvenirs to display in a shop in their classroom. They thought about the importance of tourism to North Berwick and researched different types of souvenirs and what made them quality items. The variety of souvenirs produced by the children was excellent and the shop looks great.

The children are currently spending time shopping in their shop and selecting which items they think they would like to give as presents to someone if they were visiting North Berwick.

Scots Afternoon

During the month of February all pupils in primary 4 and 5 have been learning Scottish poems off by heart and reciting them to their classmates. They have been singing their hearts out learning lots of Scottish songs, all in preparation for a very formal celebratory Scots Afternoon, which included a piper and invited guests.

In addition children auditioned their own individual skills and talents before performing on the afternoon itself. The gym hall was decorated with tartan and art work done by the children and everyone wore tartan to get in the spirit of things. Then on Wednesday25th February proceedings got underway and we all enjoyed an extravaganza of poetry, singing , dancing and a variety of instruments.

Afterwards all primary 4 and 5 classes went out into the community to perform mini versions of the event and will also be having a further two complete performances for parents early in March. What a huge success and much enjoyed by all!

Beach Clean 2

Well our second Beach clean went ahead as scheduled on the 4th of February in the morning, despite the adverse weather conditions. All 30 pupils involved, wrapped up warm and dry, accompanied by our parent volunteers, the Ranger, Mrs Wilson and Miss Brodie. They swept the West beach armed with gloves, bags for rubbish and litter pickers. All the findings were tallied and will be collated and submitted to the Marine Conservation Society to be considered in their national findings. Well done to all involved for their support and commitment to the project as part of our John Muir Award this session. Watch this space for another update next term.

Review of the week in 5B

Another busy week here in the middle area, here are our highlights:

All of the class recited their Scottish poems (with actions) and our representatives at the Scots Afternoon were chosen by the class. Congratulations to Lily, Craig, Eilidh and Finlay.
Ben has done a great job as our Star of the Week, thank you to him.
Generation Science visited us and taught us about sound and vibrations, in preparation for our forthcoming science topic in the final term.
We learned how to calculate the 6, 7,8 and 9 times tables using our fingers.
In our North Berwick topic we have been learning about the history of the Bass Rock.
