- We had our first French class and we learned how to count up to ten.
- We have begun the preparation for our First Golf lessons which start next week.
- We are learning orienteering in PE.
- Our very own Johannes was awarded this year’s Scots Afternoon Quaich for his outstanding performance on the flute (and for his fab kilt!). Congratualations!

We begin next week with a problem solving outing so please remember your spare set of clothes.  Have a great weekend, Miss Brodie

P5B’s souvenir shop March 15, 2010

Last week saw the anticipated opening of our own class shop, `Woolworths Number 2, North Berwick’.  This shop stocks hand-crafted souvenirs of our town manufactured by local artist (us!!).  The variety of goods available is outstanding and there is something for everyone; whether you want a model of the Law, a rugby ball or some handmade shortbread.  We would welcome comments from the North Berwick public as we appreciate any  feedback that you can offer.  If you made a souvenir, how did you find the experience?  Did you enjoy making your souvenir or did you have many problems to contend with?  Let us know.  Miss Brodie

Beach Clean 2 February 25, 2010

Posted by smacniven in : Uncategorized , 2comments

Well our second Beach clean went ahead as scheduled on the 4th of February in the morning, despite the adverse weather conditions. All 30 pupils involved, wrapped up warm and dry, accompanied by our parent volunteers, the Ranger, Mrs Wilson and Miss Brodie. They swept the West beach armed with gloves, bags for rubbish and litter pickers. All the findings were tallied and will be collated and submitted to the Marine Conservation Society to be considered in their national findings. Well done to all involved for their support and commitment to the project as part of our John Muir Award this session. Watch this space for another update next term.

Reading Poetry group homework January 25, 2010

Posted by Law Middle in : Uncategorized , 22comments

In tomorrow’s lesson we will be studying the following two poems; `The Fly’ and `The Toaster’.  We will be thinking about the words that the poet has chosen and why he decided to use these words in particular.  Your task is to read these two poems and choose your favourite line from one of them.

Your homework tonight is to leave a comment on this post with:
1) Your favourite line
2) Why do you like this line in particular?
3) Please write your name at the bottom of your comment.

The Toaster by William Jay Smith
A silver-scaled Dragon with jaws flaming red
Sits at my elbow and toasts my bread.
I hand him fat slices, and then, one by one,
He hands them back when he sees they are done.

The Fly by Walter de la Mare
How large unto the tiny fly
Must little things appear!-
A rosebud like a feather bed,
Its prickle like a spear;

A dewdrop like a looking-glass,
A hair like a golden wire;
The smallest grain of mustard seed
As fierce as coals of fire;

A loaf of bread, a lofty hill;
A wasp, a cruel leopard;
And specks of salt as bright to see
As lambkins to a shepherd.
