Haunted Hallowe’en Trees… October 28, 2008

Posted by Miss Boyd in : 2008-09, P5 , trackback

P5B have been very busy in art. Mrs Watson (Sam’s mum) came with her daughter, Rosie, to show us how to draw and paint spooky haunted Hallowe’en trees. We used pencil to draw the gnarled branches and roots so they looked like hands and feet, then we used a black biro pen to create a cross hatch which gives the effect of a shadow. Finally, we used watercolour to add gradual colour to the tree, the sky and the background. Here are some of our paintings. What do you think of them? Add comments please!

What do YOU think of how they turned out, Mrs Watson??

I really enjoyed drawing and painting the trees. Mrs Watson is great at teaching art. It is a real treat having her because we only have her once in a while.

I liked this because we used different art materials and new techniques
like cross hatching and we only used a ball point pen. They were really spooky.

I loved making the trees. My favourite part was painting them we used yellow and yellow ochre and brown. We also drew little goblins and witches and graveyards. They made it look more scary and spooky.

5B = WOW!! Your Halloween trees are scarily good!!! I am very impressed with your creepy painting skills and spooky cross-hatching. Well done to all of you!
You were a great class to teach - very helpful, enthusiastic and hard workers. My first year pupils at Firrhill High School in Edinburgh are struggling to be as brilliant as you guys!
You’ve all chosen just the right colours - prussian blue for the sky, hooker’s green for the land scape and burnt umbers and yellow ochres for the tree. Great water colour effects and very atmospheric paintings!
Highly commended certificates are winging their way to you as i write this comment - with Sam’s help!

We are so glad you like the paintings, Mrs Watson. The children worked very hard on them and are very proud that they are now on the wall in the classroom and on this very blog for all to see!

Many of the teachers here have asked me how they were done so there may be some other versions popping up around the school!

Thank you again for all your help.
