Shadows and reflection December 4, 2007
Posted by Miss Boyd in : 2007-08, P5 , add a commentPrimary 5C have been designing and creating shadow puppets. They used cardboard, paper fasteners, canes and scissors to create them. They will be testing them out soon to see how effective they’ve been. The rest of the P5s cannot wait to see them!
All the Primary 5s have been looking at light as part of their Light and Sound science topic. P5C have been looking at reflective materials. P5B have been dressing up a child for winter using different materials, as well as reflective/shiny material so that they ‘glow in the dark’! They’ve also been learning about shadow formation. Here’s some photos of the children researching shadows with the laptops and some of them used lamps and an object to investigate shadow formation.
“‘Twas the night before Christmas…” December 4, 2007

not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;”

One of the most famous Christmas poems in the world written by a New Yorker called Clement Clarke Moore.
P5B have been looking at the poem today and have really enjoyed it. Some of us even recognised it as it has been used many times in cartoons, songs and films since it was written on Christmas Eve in 1822. Moore read the poem to his wife and his 6 children on the night that he wrote it. Little did he know that it would become world famous, being translated into numerous languages. A family friend liked it so much they gave it to a New York newspaper ‘The Sentinel’ in 1823 and it was published! It did not have his name attached to it so it said that it was by an ‘anonymous’ poet.
P5B have been looking at this poem as they will be writing about the build up to Christmas when they write a story entitled ‘Waiting for Santa’. They have already got ideas from this famous poem to help them. Have you heard of the poem? Do you have a copy of it? If you have comments please let us know. Please follow the link above (’looking at the poem’) if you’d like to see the poem.
A ‘Rubbish’ assembly from 5A December 4, 2007
Posted by Miss Boyd in : 2007-08, P5 , 5commentsIt was a rubbish assembly! Well…not really but it was all about how we need to be careful with our litter as well as how to be eco-friendly in and out of school. We learned all about the amazing things Law Primary have been doing in school to gain our Silver Award (which should hopefully arrive before Christmas, all things well) Thank you so much to P5A for their fantastic assembly. Even the P1s, P2s and P3s got to see it this Monday!
